Your ONE favorite piece of gear?.....

My old camo cap with the face net, this is the first thing i bought ever related to turkey hunting in 89, i only had seen pictures of turkey at that time... JP.

If you click my name and view my profile JP you will see me in my awesome 1990's trebark suit I use for turkey... I am just now upgrading but I have ties to that old suit and won't ever get rid of it.... I also have the matching ballcap and facemask.... lol...
 
There are a few pieces that I could debate with myself over which is my favorite piece of gear, but the first item that came to mind is my Gransfors Bruks mini hatchet. It always goes in my daypack, as does a folding saw & fixed blade knife. I will always have at least 1 firesteel in a clothing pocket & one in my daypack. A small silnylon tarp (11 oz.) will also be in my daypack.

And here's why... This is a pic of Nos after successfully completing his FIRST blood trail in deer season. The deer meat would NOT have been recovered without Nos!!!

Favourite/most indispensible piece of gear? While I agree that a good knife is critical, and I admire Supercub's idea (but maybe not a whole roll!:D), I would have to choose a binocular. The exact model would depend on the type and location of the hunt, but whichever I have with me is being used constantly while in the field.
 
Rapala Fillet Knife, it's cleaned hundreds of game animals from squirrels to deer. Also skinned a few fur bearers with it. You can take apart almost anything with it and an axe.

Wish I could say the same for my etrex, I have the same model. First time I used it, I marked all the camp stand locations, then went back to camp and tried to use it to reach a particular stand. I knew immediately it was taking me a very round about way but I kept following it to see where it would take me. Long story short, it didn't even get me close, I'm talking 200'. The unit stay connected to all it's satellites the whole time, I wasn't in horribly thick brush or anything like that either. I've used it on the same experiment with different stands since then and my bush sense has always gotten me closer. I have however gotten it to get me within 75' of my mark, which depending on how you look at it is either good or bad. Definately possible I got a dud though, I bought it pretty much the day they were released.

I lost my basic filet knife and my wife bought me the two pack of these, a long one and a short one, very handy.

I wear these all the time until it gets to be colder than -20c, light, flexible sole, very comfortable, quiet.

That was the finishing shot once we caught up with the seriously injured deer... The track took about 30 minutes & would not have been possible without the dog blood tracking. Nos is worth his weight in gold!

Ecco Track 11. i bought them for my trip to Africa, they are uninsulated, gortex lined and have ended up wearing them for everything since. My heavily insulated hunting boots just collect dust, I just wear a pair of Smartwool medium weight socks and they are incredibly comfortable and warm enough as long as I am somewhat active. They wouldn't be warm enough if I was sitting in a treestand though.
 
My Irish Setters, I have platypus feet (that's what the friggin wife told the salesman) I can be cold, hungry, tired but my feet are happy.
 
my subcaliber insert in .32acp/308win.

its the greatest thing for when you have those days deer hunting where all you see is grouse lining the roads. shoots almost point of aim at 25 yards, and is about as loud as a .22lr.
