.41 Magnum options

So in a trade I'm getting a .41 Magnum. It's an oddball caliber, I know, but for some strange reason it's always held some appeal.

Besides the uber spendy Hornady and Sierra jacketed bullets, I've found cast lead at the Bullet Barn in BC, and a possible supplier of the Berrys Plated bullets from a vendor here.

Any other options people?

I've looked around and haven't found another supplier of cast lead bullets in this caliber within Canada. AIM and CamPro don't make plated in this caliber, and BDX don't have a swaged or jacketed in .41.
 
I also have a .41 Mag. I've used the cast lead from The Bullet Barn with no problems. There's also R&R Bullets in Maitland, ON. I haven't used their 41's but I have used their .577's for my Snider with no problems - I wouldn't hesitate to try some of their other offerings. Epps usually has some Remington soft points or hollowpoints in stock as well as brass and loaded ammo if you need (or can afford :eek:) to go that way! Welcome to the world of oddballs - you'll fit right in! :p
 
Hi i was in WSS in Lethbridge the other day and Rem 41 Mag. at $65 a box for 50 is crazy. You bet have to load for this cartridge foresure. Bruce at Cactus Plains got .41 bullets for $85/1000. Lead SWC.plus shipping...
 
I've only loaded Hornady 210's. Bought a pail of Cactus plains 225's at WSS here in WPG a couple of months ago, but haven't loaded any of it. Thinking it was $92 plus the tax. Don't have a load for 225 but the data can't be that hard to bracket. I've only seen 1 box for factory, at a show, here in Mb. Old green box Rem priced at $62. Emailed Henry at the top of the screen a yr ago and he said he couldn't get factory.

I've gotten far more leads than I'd have hoped for.

For those interested, Custom Reloading are likely bringing in a small amount of the Berrys 210 plated bullets in Jan-Feb or so. If you are interested, give them a shout so they can adjust thier order.
 
I've played around with the LBT 230 gr. LFN pb bullet and like other LBT designs, seems to hit awful hard with alot of straight line penetration. Recoil in the Marlin was nice, but may be heavy in a revolver.

I always thought that loaded a bit light, they'd make a great pin bullet.
 
I agree. I have quite a few 210gr cast lead bullets, some 220gr silhouette bullets that Hornady makes, and some 250gr cast that I can't remember where I got them. I like the 41, I think it is a nice medium caliber. I have three revolvers in this cal, two S&W's (a three inch Magnaport stainless 657 and a 4 inch blued 57) and a Ruger Blackhawk with six and a half inch bbl. Fun guns to shoot. - dan

In truth, part of the reason for my affinity for the caliber is "the one that got away".

Back in the early days when the range/club/business now known as Target Sports was Trillium Sports, a member placed a bunch of guns on consignment. One was a Lew Horton Special 657. It had a 3" mountain profile barrel, round butt, and beautiful Hogue hardwood grips. The asking price was only $250.:HR:
 
Ben, any trouble with feeding those LBT's? If I don't flick the lever quickly on my 1894 they almost feel like they would hang up a little. I just wonder if my gun is a little "finicky" or might need some feed ramp work/polishing.

Ouch. I have the regular version barrel on mine, but have a 3" RB stainless mountain gun bbl profile in 44 Special. - dan
 
RCBS cast 210 grain, soft gas check and a case full of AA #9 or W296 made a really good silhouette load back in the day. I had a long-barreled M-57 and liked it far better than the .44 mag for silhouette.
