Kalashnikov 5: Brand-New AK-12 Rifle Unveiled

Come on folks: Cz-858/Vz58 superior gun, cheaper, plentifull, non-resticted, czech practicallity without compromise. We'll be fine.

The only real advantage the VZ58 has over a good late model AK is weight, the Czechs might have created a noticably superior rifle to the original AK-47 but the Vz58 never received significant further improvements like the AK did.

Good point, but at the same time, the VZ 58 did not require further "improvements" as it had the proper design to begin with. I think the VZ 58 is still a better design even today with the improved AK74's out there.

Don't get me wrong, I would still buy an AK if they were allowed back in this country.

Exactly. Plus the vz series has seen huge improvements in the add-on dept. such as sights, rails, optic mounts etc... icing on the cake for a brilliant design. Despite all my other toys, a Lee enfield, cz rifle, and a glock are my go to/never rid myself of pieces. Frankly, the AK just looks and feels cheap to me. Stinky, stumpy, and stamped is how a yank I know describes them.

On top off everything, the bolt hold open on last round, and ability to stripper clip feed is not optional to me now, I'm spoiled.

me want forbidden firearms all of them ALL OF THEM.

also they said it can use a variety of magazines... maybe a cz crossover situation?

The AK is more reliable and durable, in particular lacking the VZ58's relatively fragile striker and piston return spring, also AK's magazines will put up with a lot more abuse than the '58 aluminums.

Market-wise the AK has everything from quad stack mags to better triggers to full custom re-work going for it.

Caliber-wise, well you don't see too many 5.45, 7.62x51, or 6.5 Grendel Vz58s, nor ones in .410, 20 and 12 gauge for that matter.

I'm not trying to put the VZ58 down but I see it as equivalent at best.
