barrel Length and accuracy

Length of sight radius will probably have a greater impact on the potential for accuracy than actual barrel length.

Can't see there being much difference with any pistol thats long enough to be restricted. Going down to something like a 2 inch or shorter barrel might impact accuracy. Just my best guess though...

I can break clay piegons @ the 200 meter mark with my norinco backpacker 2 or 3 out of 5 times. So I don't think accuracy comes from the barrel length but more to do with the way the barrel is made and the shooter behind the rifle.

For .22LR all the powder burns in about 16 inches so it should reach max velocity. But it is the quality of the barrel that determines accuracy, not really the length. I would imagine anything around the 16 inch length would be plenty long for a .22

There is no relation to barrel length and accuracy, accuracy is consistency from shot to shot from the same barrel. No worries, buy whatever length you want.

I read that optimal velocity is important too (consistent velocity from shot to shot). I think for .22 that is anywhere from 14" - 20" though. So lots of room to play with. I have read that 16" is considered the "optimal" though.

I'm no expert, I just browse a lot of forums. *Passes the grain of salt*

Consistent velocity comes from consistent ammo, barrel length is irrelevant. Faster ammo is not more accurate than slower ammo, within reason and staying below the sound barrier. 16 inch is the optimal for complete powder burn, the bullet will not be coasting in the barrel, that does not make it more ot less accurate

The intended purpose here may not be for benchrest shooting and there may be many shorter very consistent barrels but barrels on many rimfire benchrest guns are in the 22-24" range.
