I got a fancy new FailZero BCG and don't feel like having my gun blow up.

Anybody know if any of the local shops will do this?

P&D will do it for you, not sure what the charge, but undoubtedly it will only be a small portion of the money you will leave there when you're done.

If the barrel extention was already attached to the barrel when you bought it and your bolt locks into the barrel extention, don't worry about it, your headspace is fine. AR's are one of the best 'no brainer' builds going. A box of totally unassembled, quality parts can be put together and firing in about an hour.

How much more or less should I worry if I had a custom barrel made? Or do match grade barrels usually have a better track record?

I think the above advise applies to milspec dimensional parts, custom match made stuff should prolly be headspaced, just my opinion. I wouldn't feel comfortable pulling the trigger...

If the barrel maker is a known professional and they installed the barrel extention, I wouldn't worry about it. Especially if it's truly match grade.

If you're going to always wonder though, go ahead and get it done. Go to a smith that has the gauges and have it done. It'll only take a minute.

I called P&D and they said they don't do this. Might have just got somebody who doesn't know what they are talking about on the phone.

I just went and shot it :p

If the brass/primer strikes all look good to go and normal you should be fine then.

I personally like to check Headspace as a set of gauges only runs ~$100... Realistically though... It's more important with guns like AK's where the barrel could easily be set at the wrong depth. With AR-15's it's less of a factor because everything should be properly machined to spec, but occasionally issues crop up (I wont mention specific manufactures).

Anyway, I've never had an issue with a FZ Bolt.

BTW: How do you like running it dry :D ---I run mine with zero lube... Runs great!

I couldn't find one locally so I bought the one below from Brownells. It was a new barrel and BCG I put together.
