A friend has been talking me into an sks for a while now. I am going to pull the pin and get 2, one for the kid as well. Just for the fun of using is there a preference between the old, and the new chinese. I just want some fun and prefer better reliability.

Don't know where the best landed deal into Alberta is but, I am starting to search. I kust wondered about the refurbed vs new as well.

You honestly can't go wrong with either. For fun shooting, the new Chinese are cheaper if you're buying 2, especially with a deal like Marstar has. Then, if the bug bites you and you want more, the Russian ones are still cheap.

I agree, the Russian ones seem better built and a little heavier, but shoot the same as the Chinese ones. All are fun as hell!

If you in the calgary area, Surplus city has Russian Surplus SKS Non Laminate for around $170 mark, everywhere else in calgary is 200+

If your willing to ship, I know marstar has buy a case of ammo and get a sks for 75 bucks, Lever arms has a ammo (non corrosive) and a russian sks for $500.

the good news is, there arent a lot of posts about chinese OR russian owners ranting about "this POS doesn't work!!"

I have the chinese one from Marstar; love it!

Since you are getting 2, why not get one of each and do your own side by side comparison?

I've had a couple yugos and one military chinese.
Fit and function, they were equal.
Yugo looks better, so I kept it as a safe queen.
Not shooting 762x39mm much anymore.

For the price, the chinese sks rifles cannot be beat.
Marstar had em for $75 with ammo/m14 purchase.
It's freaking insane.
All milled rifle, with a beautifully simple gas piston system.

Get em before they're gone.

Aside from a bolt-action, I've never heard of a more reliable rifle. Not the most accurate, but hey, any SKS will shoot "minute of imperialist Western pig" :D:D

Buy the two, you won't regret it!!

Btw, I prefer the Russian surplus over the Chinese new. The Russian surplus ones just feel better in my hands, and I like the blade bayonet for when the Zombies attack!!:p

If you are out west watch out for the shipping on that marstar deal there are reports of $200+ in shipping. Look at the russian sks and 1000 rounds of ammo for 369 shipped.

I just bought mine from trade ex. Its a russian sks with 1000 rounds and free shipping. I love the rifle and haven't even shot it yet.

Thanks for all the info folks. I guess it is just down to the best deal landed at my door. Where are the $369 including shipping deals, hometownhero?

Pretty sure there aren't anymore 'new' chinese sks rifles.
All the marstar ones appeared to be old military stock.

I found some decent deals on Russian surplus, and have a few friends that also may want one or 2, so we may buy a 10 pack for 160 each. I wonder if there are any deals on 5000 to 10,000 rounds, of ammo, to split up as well.
