Does anyone know of any dealers in Canada (other than listed below) who stock (or could bring in) one of the reproduction Spencers (rifle or carbine) .... preferably chambered in 56/50?
(I have already sent inquiries to Marstar, European Arms Distributors, Doc Rowland and Country Classic ....)
Or, for that matter, do you know of someone who might have one for sale, used?
I have long had a hankering to get one of these .... not exactly sure why, but I guess it mostly has to do with Canada's ownership and use of over 4,000 of the rimfire originals back during the Fenian Raids period - 1866-72 - and the fact that I have had the chance to fire a couple of different repro Spencers at events in the States.
I actually had a carbine bought and paid for from a dealer in the US a few years ago - along with brass, loading dies and a bullet mould - but he ended up having to send my money back, because for some reason he couldn't get the necessary export permit from the U.S. Department of State! (There is a special restriction, administered by State, rather than the BATF, on exporting firearms of .50 caliber and larger - it is aimed at the stuff which fires .50BMG and such, so why they wouldn't authorize export of a reproduction of an 1865-vintage firearm is beyond me!)
I've never quite lost the urge to have one, though - matter of fact, I still have a file of the photos I saved at the time ....
