A while back I bought a g21sf and it was the softest 45 I have shot to date. The ergonomics on it however was like shooting a g17 that someone had inflated like a balloon. This plastic brick of death turned me off of plastic guns forever, or so I thought. I became a 1911 guy. Glock 21's are probably the best seller of 1911s on the planet.

Fast forward a couple years and I did some interesting training and came to the conclusion, while I love 1911s, maybe those extra safety features aren't the best all the time. So I spent a few days in spiritual crisis; plastic or steel, plastic or steel. I considered the g37 GAP (as I do like the feel of the g17) and then the MP 45 slowly sneaked onto my radar. I just got it yesterday and wow! It has a decent trigger (no smoothed out 3lb 1911 trigger, but that is not what I want for this gun anyhow), it feels comfortable in my hand, and it points really nicely. I have not gotten it to the range yet, but wow am I happy so far. I am probably going to change the sites and maybe tweak a couple things after I have shot it a bit, but I am thrilled that it does not feel like a plastic brick of death.

I will always be a 1911 guy...but I may be an m&p guy too :)

When they first came out, I was thinking of buying an M&P. Then I tried one that a fellow shooter had & hated the terrible trigger pull. So I never got one.
It seems that S&W has cured the trigger pull issue. I recently bought a BUL .45 which has a poly frame. Great trigger. Looking forward to it's first range trip.

I really like the feel of the m&p9. I perfer it over the ergos of the glock. I too love the 1911 but there is a place in my safe for a M&P in the future!

I actually don't mind the g17, but Glock is really off the mark in my eyes when they go to 45 acp. I sold my 21sf within a month of buying it. Either way, the m&p fits my hand much better.

I think that the Smith M&P's are the best of the plastic wonder guns.

I have to agree! Back when I was looking to get a 45, a friend organized a "taste test" at our range. I was able to test drive various 1911s (A Colt MKIV and STI Spartan amongst others), a Smith 645, and yes - an M&P 45. I ended up with a 1911 myself, but I was so impressed by the M&P 45 that when the time came for a 9mm, I went with the M&P 9. No regrets.

The only other suggestion I can make is to try the Beretta PX4 Storm if you have the chance. The PX4 is the softest shooting tupperware 45 i've ever shot. Nice ergo's as well.

I never considered the px4 because it has such a bad reputation. If I get the opportunity to shoot one I will have to give it a try. I had a cx4 and loved it. If I got the px4 I would definitely have to buy another cx4.

I really like the M&P series as well, easily my favorite plastic gun, but is that a Dan Wesson Valor Bobtail? Cause goddamn man, that's hot.

Yes, it is a dan wesson vbob. It is the finest firearm I have ever owned.

If you clean up the trigger with an Apex kit you'll find the M&P45 is a real pleasure to shoot, it has very good to excellent accuracy, is completely reliable and a pussy cat to shoot. One of the reasons the M&P feels so good to 1911 shooters is that Smith designed the M&P's with the same grip angle as the 1911, and the M&P45 has very, very close to the same grip radius and trigger reach as the 9.
