well finally after three years of shooting i got it. I looked on the board at the club and my first 25 was in september of 09, three months after i first started. Took awhile but it feels good, look out 75, and 100. Looking forward to the shooting year. especially the ontario and canadian open. Cant wait to see everyone again this year and get some more free tips :D

Well done. I'm looking to get into the sport and its great to see other people having success!

Just for reference and out of curiosity how much practice does one put in to achieve this feat?

Congrats!

5000 shells for the first 25
15000 shells for the first 50

Haa I don't know if its true but I've heard lots of old timers repeat it. I've yet to get my first 50 straight. Damn station 5 hi house

Gee, 50/50! That is great! The old guys might say 5000 and 15000 etc. but I've shot that and the best I've done is 48. Do you think I could get my money back if I confronted them about it:D? Why 5 high? What is going on there?

They just want you go through the apprenticeship. Heaven help them if someone shot 50 straight with their first case of shells.
Have fun!

well 25 took three months of shooting every wednesday and sunday and the math says 200 shells a week for three months is 2400. and it took three years to get 50 straight so the math is like 28800 but i didnt go twice a week everyweek so i would say the 15000 mark sounds about right. for me i had to get a lot of 25s before i did the 50 just because its nerve racking. thanks everyone for the kind words

I blew a 50 straight today. Station 5 hi. Dropped it and my option. Don't know what it is about that station. Its probably all in my head as I switch to the right barrel first on that shot. Someday ill get my 50

Congrats Zelly. Now that you have the 50, I do not think 75 is that far away:)

brybenn, I find high 5 to be a tough one for me too. I think it may be my toughest. I think it may be because I am right handed and I seem to have too much time. I should take a few lessons. Often when I start to get h5 figured out I go to pot on one of the easier targets. No easy targets so it must be a head thing for me.

I had a niggle on this as I remembered going through a time where I was having trouble with high 5. But couldn't remember what I had done to try and help myself out of it. So, I went and looked up King Heiple's book. He said it is easy to ride high 5 (actually he said all incomers) too far and make a semi-stop. His solution was to force yourself to take the bird a bit earlier than normal. I don't know if this applies to me though. I like letting the bird come in a long way on the shot, because it's where I would shoot it when shooting doubles. I moved my hold point out further from the high house at this station hoping to ride the bird a little less and reduce the chance of stopping the gun. So far, so good...talk to me next week though:) Number 5 low house gives me problems right now.
