I've heard of wax being used, not sure what kind though. Never heard of using lead.

There's that stuff they use for making impressions for crowns.
Gotcha. Either sulfur or Cerrosafe will work fine. You will still need to add the dimension from bolt face to barrel face, headspace gauges help here.

Whatever you use must come out easy, be careful when pouring, a little goes a long way.
