.17 hornet

The Savage 25's will be awhile in 17 Hornet... there is a high demand in the »USA and they are not even shipping yet... I am waiting on the reamers for 17 Hornet... we are chambering two H&R Sportster 17 HMR's to 17 Hornet and fitting the barrels to SB2 frames... we are really looking forward to shooting this round.

The 17's are a fun caliber. Saubier.com is a good place to go for small caliber info and discussion.

I would love a SAKO varmint stainless in 17HH. I would prefer a 17 fireball but it appears that one is disappearing.

Agreed. How difficult will it be to convert a .17 Hornet into a 17 fireball? Would a Savage 25 made for the hornet be capable of feeding through 17 fireball cartridges?

From what I've read 25 & 30 grain bullets are ideal for coyotes, and the the 17 hornet doesn't move those weights anywhere near as fast as a 17 fireball or 17 Remington can.

That's a good idea. I think you would just have to get someone to ream out the chamber. Not sure if the mag would work though. My Cooper is a single shot and I don't mind it one bit. I've only used the 20gr V-Max and it worked well on a coyote. If you want to shoot the heavier ones you might want to look at a 17 Remington. I don't have any experience with them though.

I'm very interested in this caliber, but the Savage rifles chambered in .17Hornet look like their 93 rimfires with a different ejection port. That's fine, but the price is very non-rimfire-like! Make it a $400 rifle and I'll be first on the list.

The fireball and hornet are different cases, one is not feeding into the other unless you re cut the chamber. FS

I've got a savage 25 in 17 hornet on order, was told they're expected around May. My only beef: ONLY HORNADY DIES. I hate hornady dies....

SO what is the reason for the hate on for Hornady dies ??? just wondering ?? I gota couple sets and they seem to work fine for me !!

I don't really HATE them I guess....just more bits and bobs, minorly more inconvenient to use. Oh, and the price tag. I have to reload another 2 full boxes to recoup the cost :)

Doesn't LEE make dies if you send in a few brass?
Two fire-formed casings and a pair of bullets, plus about $75 S&H included, and you get a collet die set for that specific rifle in about two months.

I don't know if they also make a full-length sizer as well... they should, but I was only looking at the collets for my Mosin earlier.
