How does your grandfathers rifle in 270 take 223/5.56 as well? That's not quite possible. Also, the 7600 is a pump. The semi-automatic version is the 7400.

I have a 7615P pump and it's a great little rifle with the 16.5" bbl. It uses AR type magazines and seems to be very durable. Mine's been bouncing around on a snowmobile all winter and no issues with any plastic parts in the cold.
As far as I know, there is no such thing as a semi auto Police version. Remington also made a 7600P in a 308, again that's a pump.

lol no i ment he has a 7400 chambered in 270. of course it can take 223. they are similar rifles. what parts are plastic on the gun??

A 270 can't fire 223 and you'll hurt yourself trying to do so.
You need to do some reading and research before getting your daddy to buy you a rifle.

your not getting me here. and you dont have to be a jerk. i know you cant fire the 223 in a rifle chambered in 270. i dint even say it could. in my first post when i said it can also fire the 5.56 mm i ment the remington 7615 police can also fire the 5.56mm. not the remington 7400 chambered in 270. BTW im old enuff to buy my own firearms. so dont just assume im a little kid that doesnt know jack.

The 7615 Police Pump action rifle can ONLY fire 223, it's not chambered in any other caliber. Why don't we leave Grampa's 7400 Semi-Auto rifle out of this discussion? Might make it easier to decipher your posts. ;)

The plastic parts(bolt cover and stock) are a non-issue on the 7615P. Like I said, I've used it bouncing around on a snowmobile all winter and it's fine. The stock is made by Speedfeed, better than the standard Remington. I'm not sure why they need to have the plastic dust cover over the bolt, but it doesn't interfere with function. I suspect the rifle would function without it as well.

The 5.56 out of a 223 chamber being dangerous is still up for debate, depends what you read and by whom.

The Mini-14 is a semi-auto, the 7615 a pump, so not really a fair or balanced comparison.
That said, I've had 3 Mini-14's over the years and the 7615 outshoots them all, from an accuracy standpoint, quite easily. For predators and Varmints, the accuracy of the 7615 puts it ahead. For pure fun, the Mini-14 might be better being a semi-auto, but you're limited to 5 rounds/mag. With the 7615, you can legally use LAR-15 10 round pistol magazines.

PS- do yourself a favor and edit the spelling on your sig line...... ;)

lol thanks, i also dont think im going to go with the rem. i read you have to take the barrel off to remove the bolt! i dont like that one bit. i think im going to go with a bolt action and get a smith to mount some sights on it.

There's some bolt actions with open sights out there yet. I think Tikka, Remington Model 7 and 700 BDL are available with open sights.

I realize this is a super old thread but I was wondering what classification this firearm had Remington 7615 police 16 1/2” barrel where they restricted or non restricted?if they were restricted was their a non restricted model?

Non restricted. Manual action so minimum barrel length does not apply. Only thing that matters is overall length and these easily meet that requirement.

DO NOT BUY 7615P from Sean Newman
Collingwood,Ontario
Scumbag Scammer using stolen ID ,had a 7615 advertised for sale on usedfirearms.ca
I became suspicious as price was too good to be true(7615 with red dot sight and folding Magpul stock $600)
As suspected,it was too good to be true,he tried to get me to send EMT,i traced his cell phone to northern Ontario north of Lake of The Woods.I asked if my cousin could pick up rifle in Collingwood where he was claiming to be(I am in Alberta)...lots of excuses on his part, out of town in Toronto for week etc etc, just send EMT and ill ship right away bla bla bla all BS.
Hes bee using Sean Newman stolen ID for at least 4 years in other scams and is nowhere near Collingwood.Worst thing is is the dumbass might have got me if he was asking reasonable price, lol

Thats good to know thanks. And the quest continues I guess a shame they were discontinued hope I’ll have one in hand one day.
you and me both,lol....I should’ve bought 7615 i seen on consignment at CSC couple years ago for $800 but money was tight at the time.Ive owned two 7600s in 30-06 over the last 33 years(first one was stolen)quite happy with them, inherently accurate by design, both shoot sub MOA with almost any factory ammo i’ve tried,I’ve taken dozens of deer/moose/bear/elk with them.
