shotgun rifle inserts

At one time, I had a 10" .45acp barrel for a 12 gauge. It was a cool toy and shot okay but using it was a bit awkward as you had to use a rod to knock the empties out of it.
It had an o-ring or two as I recall to hold it in place and it fit pretty well. It had a notch so the extractor wouldn't eject it.

Curious here, I've seen drillings with .22 inserts in them. Do you Kentucky windage the .22 insert or do you click adjust the scope? Or is your scope spot on for the rifle barrel and the insert?

The Krieghoff .22 insert has a three point mounting system that is adjustable. It can be adjusted to precisely match the point of aim of the rifle barrel at a given distance, which is usually about 50 yds.
At closer distance there is small amount of aiming error due to the relationship of the two bores, but it is insignificant.
At long range, the aiming error would make the .22 bore cross point of aim and continue to diverge, but significant divergence would happen beyond the effective range of a .22RF anyway.
 
I have one in .22 and one in 9mm. They are rifled and the size of a shotgun shell.

Can hit a gong no prob at 50 yards with ghost ring sights. Did not have time to test grouping yet.

It is funny hearing a .22 LR out of a 28" barrel, sounds like a pellet gun. They are mostly a toy and a gimmick but I can see the use in a survival type of situation when you can have multiple calibers and only 1 firearm
 
I just bought some, .22lr and .38/.357 They came on Friday. I had them out on Saturday....

I shot them out of my Parker sxs and my dlask/Remington 8.5".

I shot a wide range of ammo including, shorts and long rifles. I would have no concerns about knocking over a grouse with one. It was pop cans under fifty yards but I was hitting them with out any issues.

Over all I was impressed.

I havent tried the .38spl/.357mag one yet.

At least I found out quick that this isn't the forum to come to for answer more just to get your head bitten off by a couple know-it-alls.

Thank you to the people who actually did take the time to answer appropriately but for someone with 4000 posts you would think they would be a bit more helpful unless those were 4000 rude posts and that is your hobby in which case maybe you should get back to shooting instead of criticizing others questions about firearms or at least get a constructive hobby.

Seems like any time I have a fair question on a subject I have a hard time looking for an answer I end up just getting crap or nothing at all. Trust me I look through good and the "search" here first however I would like relevant answers to my questions not smart-a$$ nonsense.

I might only have a couple hundred posts but mine are either asking questions to learn or helping out with knowledge I have, not just to show off and make everyone upset. The easiest thing to do is make fun, put down and criticize. If you know so much why not share your knowledge instead of hoarding it. Anyways thats all. I will just stick to the other forums and leave you to the flame wars as I am not about that kind of forum chat. if I want that I will go to 4chan, genmay or some other soap box where I can just spurt garbage. I look at this forum as a knowledge collective and when I see people with thousands of crappy posts that means you have brought the entire collective down.

Alright sorry if I went overboard but it seems like this happens a considerable amount lately and it is not something that a group already lacking in solidarity needs if they want to show the government we are a group not a bunch of people who just simply own guns and are substandard in their treatment towards other like minded people then how must they treat others and all it takes it one anti to view this board and see the negative comments to make their point. I know this is a stretch but I think this point needed to be made as well.

Don't let the haters get you down! If we didn't discuss the same stuff every once in a while we wouldn't have much to discuss.....I could talk guns 24/7.

Some people just haven't realized that we are all gunnutz here regardless of personal preferences and that there is really no such thing as a bad gun.....ok maybe that is a stretch, there are some bad guns out there but they are still worthy of discussion!

I bought a .22 mag insert for my 22-250. For occasional use when a coyote is hit but I don't want to tear it up any more. It shoots right to point of aim at 50 yards. The guy is from Alberta and I think had an ad in Gunrunner. $40.00 bucks or so.
 
The inserts are definitely a niche item. I have used one in a long barreled single shot for shooting around barns and such, very quiet and good for critter control.

Accuracy is pretty poor and bullets tended to key hole.

These were not uncommon. Had one on the farm. It was used exclusively to put down cattle. Little more expensive to operate than a 22 but quite alot more effective. Cow would drop like a rock. Never shot from much over 10 feet so was as accurate as it needed to be. I thought it was a farmer design.

Hey come on, I've met Win 64 in person and he's not a bad guy.

Yeah, he was a bit snarky in that post, I'll give ya that, but I had no issues talking with the guy in person.

I had a set of these a few years ago in .357/38 that were made from aluminum. Bullets wouldn't stabilize properly. I tossed them because I didn't want to risk damage to the barrels of my guns caused by keyholing bullets.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time...

What could a tumbling bullet do? I can't see to causing any harm to a newish shotgun. An old damascus barrel might be different...

I wasn't about to find out. The gun I was using was a sxs with fairly light barrels. I wasn't keen to find out what the impact would be of a jacketed bullet scraping down the insides of the barrel because it wasn't stablized. I might have felt differently if the gun was a junker that I didn't care about.
