Well kinda ;)

Been looking and looking and looking for one of those 4.2" Ruger Redhawks in 44MAG.

I passed on one a year ago and have been kicking myself ever since.

They seem to be very scarce in Canuk land.

Well, Lady Luck smiled on me yesterday as a local shop got one in.

Just put in the paperwork for my very own shortie :dancingbanana:

Will post pics once it's in house.

Thats awesome man. Post some pics when she gets home. It took me about 16 months to get one, and I had to get it used as no shops were getting them in (sounds like its still the same...)

Mine shoots great, and I changed the grips to some Nill Griffe's that are awesome (in my own opinion of course). Only complaint is the crane doesnt sit flush with the frame when it's closed. From what I have reasd it's not uncommon on the redhawks. It's only aesthetic, but still not what you want when you buy a $1000 gun. Check yours and post some pics of the crane if you can, I would appreciate it.

Congrats. Heres some pics to tide you over

Thanks for the pics P81,

I remember your thread, glad you're still happy with it.

Hopefully the gap isn't terrible on mine but if I remember correctly yours closed up quite a bit after a round of shooting and cleaning.

I'm not crazy about the factory bantam grip either but will have to see how she handles. Will likely swap them out for something else ;)

I know. In my story it was a 5.5" blued Redhawk but the bold parts were the same until another came along.

Had a SS 5.5" Redhawk, it had a great balance to it. Traded that one off for another pistol.

Redhawk availability seems to come in waves, sometimes they are everywhere for sale and then nothing for months at a time it seems.

Actually, my brand new GP100 seems to exhibit a similar characteristic; when the cylinder is closed, the crane appears to sit at an angle and not flush to the frame. The side closer to the underlug angles outward from the frame. When I get the chance, I'll take pictures and update the post later.

Not being stupid or critical here or to get someone worked up. Rugers are made to work great not to look great.

Graydog

Believe me, I'll be the first to agree with you and I don't really mind about the crane as long as it doesn't present a safety concern.

Here's mine :D...I've been shooting Win 230gr white box but now shooting 180gr Rem UMC. It really roars and flames and $6 cheaper per box of 50!
Pancake81...nice grips and holster.

I love the 180gr loading, go hooked on them with the Remington retail boxes and then started reloading my own with H110

My Shock & Awe rounds, lots of flame and a big ass BOOM!

Can hardly wait to put them through the 4.2" barrel :D

Picked up the Ruger yesterday, a solid chunk of a gun!

The overall finish was good, a little rough in spots. Not expecting a S&W M28-2 kinda of finish anyway.

As for the crane fit, it's pretty good. Not a giant gap like some have reported but not a seamless fit either.

The crown might be a bit off. Might be my eyes because it doesn't look even all around. Only some range time will tell on that front.

A good working gun finish overall I'd say.

I thought I'd hate the grips as I've got fairly large mitts but you really can get a firm and solid hold on the beasty.

I like the grip also but the exposed backstrap really pounds the palm of the hand.
Shoot her and let us know what you think.....

Got the little tank to the range.

Very comfortable, no problems with light strikes or the such. Just had to adjust the rear sites.

Awesome little hand cannon.

My Shock & Awe reloads (180gr JHP over 31.5gr of H110) were quite the show :D

Congratulations pageophile!:dancingbanana:

Here is my factory 4.2'' .45 Colt with a set of Ruger wood grips:

Much prettier than the Hogues it came with.

Here's a photo of the crane gap on mine, not great but it is what it is:

I've only fired factory Hornady loads from it at this point, but I'm planning to load some 300g Bullet Barn hard cast with a pile of H110.
