You would definitely want to be taking off you scope if you were using a wrench in that area. I know guys who have messed them up using the Surgeon action wrench...

I would imagine that useing the 12pt wrench over the hex would be more practical and plesant to look at, useing open wrench upon the square would look like bubba job....IMHO of course.
