Got the stock brake removed from my Stag thinking I'd like to go with something a bit more quiet...then thought, what the hell. I like being loud and obnoxious..and well...not moving off target.

Anyone have experience with either of these brakes? The Surefire is $100 more and I'm trying to reconcile if it's worth it.

Thoughts?

The SureFire is the better brake. SEI is good, but isn't a top contender, so to speak.
I don't know about this comment but some one once said to me seeing is believing.

Rey Marquez empties a Beta Mag through an M16 equipped with the Smith Enterprise Good Iron muzzle brake similar to our P/N 1002. Our Muzzle Brakes reduce felt recoil by 95% and limit muzzle climb to 0%.
Oh ya if it can tame a 308 M14 recoil I don't realy think 223 is too much of an issue.

MB556K is the muzzle device on the market if you do NOT care about flash suppression.

Yeah - not planning any night ex's so I'm thinking the Surefire :) They seem pretty comparable..and nothing against the SEI...but, I see the Surefire on more top-tier arms (which I don't have...but hey, maybe I'll get there)

Thanks for the advice folks!

Don't get me wrong, I've had one on an M14 and on an AR (it now sits in a drawer, unused), the MB556 line is just better.

Will do - I actually didn't find the stock compensator too bad...just hated the look of it. It did jump around a little so we'll see. Worst part was having to send it out to have the pin drilled...

Really? I was just told that these can only be sold to LE by one of the sponsors...

I have learned that most of the time when a vendor tells you that something "can't be brought in" it just means they haven't brought it in or don't feel like doing the paper work. Still worth looking around, and there is always the EE

That said I got my MB556K in a private sale.

What's wrong with a PWS FSC556? About $90 on average and should contend with both of those pretty well. Put the extra money into practice ammo. :D

Did lots of reading on benos and arfcom and some highly recommended compensators (not flash hider) are....

JP Bennie Cooley Tactical Compensator
TSS Rolling Thunder Comp (Benny Hill)
Miculek Comp
SJC Titan

most are $150 - $200 except the miculek.
