AR-15 magazine choices....what's hot and what's not?

What you guys need to consider is that the "improved anti tilt follower" in PMAGS has no real benefit for us, because we are restricted to 5.

Its just koolaid as far as I'm concerned (but I totally drank it and run PMAGS exclusively XD)

I have half a dozen 5/3o pmags that work great. I also have half a dozen 5/20 pmags that don't lock the bolt back on the last round. Go fig.

5/30 Pmags ofc! Why other than looks? Dare to dream that some day the 5 round limit is removed/altered and we can take a drill bit to the rivet!

I have a 5/30 and a 5/20 PMag, 2 LAR15 Mags, and a M16 5/30 round steel magazine. The PMags are by far the easiest to load and feed the best. The LAR15 mags are a bit harder to load and the M16 mag I have is almost a joke at how terrible they are to load and how they feed.

PMags are where your money should go. 30 round mags for 'tacticool' 20 round mags work better for bench, prone or bipod shooting as you can reload without moving the gun much.

DH 5/30 mags are ok, but you defintely get what you pay for. They may be the only AR mags I've ever handled, but in just feeling them I know they are cheap. Decent though- just be wary. Got 4 and ended up with 3.

30 round length mags tend to fit mag pouches we and stay retrievable. LARs get swallowed in stardard mag pouches.

30 round length is perfect for mono-poding from prone.

If you shoot courses of fire that require 5 round limits, 5 round mags are easier to load from stripper clips. No think, just push in rounds till the follower stops.

Geez, I had my eye's opened to the awesomeness of stripper clips back at the SR CQB clinic. I seriously went home and filled up as many stripper clips as possible. It's almost as much fun as reloading.

I have 18 of the 5/30 standard GI style mixed between stainless and aluminum bodies as well as 4 LAR-15 mags, and a couple 5/20 Thermold mags and they all feed and function perfectly in both my AR's.
I was thinking of trying some Pmags next.
Good luck with whichever ones you go with and if they don't function well in your rifle you can always sell them on the EE.
