So, after much debate, I finally decided to take the plunge and buy my first firearm and I decided that I would make that firearm the venerable AR15/M4 carbine. Once that was decided, I had a number of choices to make; whether I should buy a Rail/Upper combo? or a monolithic upper. When I decided to go monolithic, the next decision was which manufacturer? So off to the interweb I went in order to consult the many forums/websites/youtube videos out there where I could educate myself. In the end, I decided on Vltor Weapons System as the manufacturer of choice. SO, here we go!
Parts and where I sourced them:
1.) Vltor VIS-2AK monolithic complete upper receiver - Armtac
-This upper included: 10.5" Noveske stainless barrel (1:7 twist), Noveske lo-pro gas block, Noveske F/A BCG, and BCM gunfighter charging handle (mod4). The completed upper was built by Armtac.
2.) Surefire FH556-215A Flash hider - private sale
-I wanted the long sleek look of that this flash hider provided
3.) Vltor VR semi completed lower receiver - Armtac
-Milspec buffer tube
4.) Vltor Basic EMOD Stock - Armtac
5.) Magpul Kool-aid - Brownells
6.) LAR15 mags (not pictured) - Questar
7.) LAR15 aluminum mag coupler (not pictured) - Dlask
Future parts:
Aimpoint PRO, Vickers padded single point sling and QD sling adaptor, Magpul BAD lever, Surefire weapon light (suggestions?) and LaRue index clips (on order)
Finish of the Vltor parts are amazing. No visible tooling marks or swirling. Very nice fit between the upper and lower receiver. I like the way Vltor and incorporated the QD points to the end plate (is that what it's called? sorry, new the hobby). The cuts on the front of the mag well and the super big magazine release are also a nice touches. I love this rifle and it is very fun to shoot. I'm very happy with the rifle!!
Special thanks to Chris @ Armtac for helping me put the bad boy together. Great service! Now, all that's left is to take her out to the range and shoot the heck outta her!!
Here are some pics! Enjoy!
