Greeting Nutters?.. Gun Nutz?

Im new to forums and an allready am after free advice.

Am looking to purchase a NR 9mm carbine for close range targets and back country plinking. The size and affordability of ammo seem like good selling feature for this style gun. And am a bit old for wee .22 caliber plinkers.

Ive narrowed it down to three choices.

Kel tec sub 2000- seems like good cheap gun, but since its not cheap in canada probably not worth the money

JR Carbine- Seems better but reviews of early ones seem problematic

Thureon defense's upcoming glock magazine version in 9mm - Probally best best as it has quad rails for mounting, more metal parts, and can use glock magazines for upcoming hand gun purchase down the road?

Am I on right path?

Well you have a few other options as well:

HK USC45
Beretta Storm
Kriss
B&T APC9
New Skorpion (2013?)
BRS99

I believe all of these either come in a NR form or have been re-barreled to conform. It really depends on your budget.

I suppose i should say I dont want to go much over $1000 ballpark. I did see one place doing new barrels for cx4 beretta's but thats 400 or so on top of price. The kriss acp is pricey and fugly. Never seen that b&t one but just found it at one shot tacticals page and its nice but almost 2,500 in non restricted.

The JR is great, reasonably priced for what you get, and accurate.
Mine takes Glock mags, and contrary to what you may hear from some - is quite reliable. Mine is in 9mm - one of the cheaper centre-fire pistol ammo's going.

Have you ever tried the thureon defense? nice to hear you havent had any reliability issues. There both in about same price point be nice if someone owns or had tried both. Have you tried it with targets past 100yards or does it drop off too much at that point?

No, but I did give the Thureon the once over....... when they first came out they had that proprietary mag requirement (reworked UZI Mags I think?) and I lost all interest. But now with the Glock interoperability on the way, I like 'em a little more.

One thing I know for sure is this; if you have an issue with a JR Carbine, their customer support is awesome. They will bend-over backwards to ensure your gun works the way it's supposed to, (this - from my friends experience).
I cannot speak to any of the other models, but this should be a big selling point for anyone.

Targets beyond 100yds? No idea to be honest - I'm damned impressed that I can group a 9mm pistol round at 2" or less at 100yds with this thing. But quite frankly, I don't believe it was ever designed to go beyond that.......

Yes I have read JR Carbine took back a lot of guns for free repairs that did have issues, certainly something to consider when making choice. There so similar probably be happy either way with JR or Thureon

Hickok45 just did a review of the Thureon, seems pretty positive. I was going through this debate myself, ended up buying an SKS and tonnes of ammo lol

Tried the Kel-tec.. really did not like the feel of it at all

Love the JR Carbine. Got one in .40S&W

Never tried a Thureon (sure it is GTG) but not fussy on the looks... albeit neither of these three look *great* per se.

Boomer where did you get your JR?

Looks pretty good with new rails on it when it comes in glock i think. If you like AR look i guess you would say? Kel tec stock looks so flimsy and weak and since i am both of those things i need a stock that overcompensates for that.

A lot of the AR accessories can bolt right on. Some can be made to fit easily with only slight mods and others... well not so much. That's another great selling point for the JR and the gun owner that wants to personalize it.
