Quick video I put together of yesterdays trip to the range to try a new scope/rings/mount combination.
Came away feeling less confident in my rifle (and my shooting) after only shooting it iron sights. Think I set my expectations too high once I scoped it.

I need to,
a) learn how to properly use the MIL 0.1MRAD reticle and knobs
b) strengthen my upper body and core, big time!
c) shoot more!!!!

Alright, enough with the excuses.

Edit* I should probably add that what I wanted to do here is see for myself and anyone else interested if the CASM mount is a solid option for less money. The only downside as I see it is the overall height of the mount. I had to add 1.25" riser to use my scope with low rings.

Would I spend another $100 +/- for a lower mount, probably. But I like knowing this one is from a fellow Canuck earning a living making me M14 accessories.

not bad for rapid standing

advice: get a dump pouch

also if you want to strengthen you upper body easily for your rifle.. push ups. and also get your rifle and hold it out at arms length for as long as you can.. recover for 1min, do it again.. sets of 3, 3x a night for about a week.. you'll find that next range trip you'll be able to handle your rifle a lot better

Take your time dude, your not going to progress if you rush things. Those groups were not bad considering it was rapid standing.

  1. Not proper use of a sling.
  2. Not proper shooting stance.
  3. Not proper check weld.
Needless to say that there is something up with your rifle not locking open on an empty mag.
Shall I go on???
Other than that good on ya ;)

Wow! Wish I had that many Mags. Would not want to be the Camera man though, with all those empty shells flying around hehehe.....:D
Seriously, it's a good video, proves the point, despite the so called lack of form:cool:
Most guys dont do rapid fire like that because, they get a bit twisted on the recoil and wonder why they did not hit the target within one inch,

p.s. like the way you can still hold the brl. with bare hands after that. You must be a cheff? hehehhee..........
good video and to the point despite the critics. Rock on Bro!

+1
Damn this video reminded me how bad 5 round mags suck.
Can't someone make a M305 pistol already...
At least your getting trigger time, gotta love that.

C'mon Satan gimme some love man! :D
I don't shoot with a sling, that's my signature girly man stance and my cheek was as up-tight as you are. I joke, I joke.

Rifle was being a ##### on the empty mag, first time shes done that. Would a loose gas plug cause that, because it was pretty loose by the end of it.

Regardless, this was to see what 50 rapid would do to the mount/scope. Perfect excuse to shoot fast!

K all joking aside good work on ya for actually getting out there and running this rig for a change. Now lets try to figure out if it'f the magazines causing this malfunction or it's something else. Try racking the action on the empty and if it still closes on the empty chamber check the follower for damage or the spring to see if it is getting "hung up" on anything. Now as for your gas plug walking out for you this could be caused by a multiple things such as the op-rod slamming against your gas assembely or something as simple as you not apllying the right amount of torque to the nut. For this I would reffer you to some of the guru's for better problem solving as most of the time this stuff would be covered in there clinic's.
Oh ya the change in the gas pressure from the nut walking out on ya can effect ones groupings. ;)

All 10 mags hold the bolt open when I rack it on them empty. I have gone through all these mags several times in warmer weather, this was the first time it's acted up. The followers are fairly worked in, and don't seem to be catching anything on their way up.

This was the coldest weather I've shot it in, and noticed my grease was getting a little tacky. Was also the first time I've shot the Federal ammo.

I crank the gas plug tight with the rifles multi tool, but it always loosens up after some shooting.

The rifle needs some tuning for sure. The op-rod guide is loose, been meaning to try the new roll pin within roll pin fix.

A "coiled" 1/8" spring pin 1" long may be better (I am sorry to say, "if you can find just one"). They are tough to find. (I am surprised Fulton or Sadlak do not sell them). Needless to say, with a "coiled" spring pin the compression starts at the outer edge and moves through the coils toward the center. Compression is uniform and stresses are distributed equally throughout the cross‑section. Slotted pins compress by closing the gap (stresses concentrate opposite the gap and compression is not uniform around the circumference of the pin). A couple of good reasons why a coiled spring pin might be better for an oprod guide. (A little dimpling with a machinist's punch and red loctite goes a long way with the original pin).

Nice shooting man. I have just gone for the CASM and cant wait for my scope to get here. Placing a Millett DMS Illum scope on. Nice setup there too. Lean into the shot more though :) It will help alot. Those mag changes were like sonic the hedgehog lol.

Good groupings too. I am a little nervous about the height of the scope also so we will see how it goes. I may have to place a little video of the Mount range report also! :)

As for being a lefty, my platoon sergeant at basic was a lefty and was the best shot I have seen in all my army career. So dont let us righties have a go at ya haha!

Caio!

Go for it Matt, hope you have a better camera than me.
If you make a video, I'll make another!

Left handed people are the chosen ones.
