Had a guy come in the other day with a Mannlicher-Schoenauer Mod 1952 in excellent condition. He wanted it drilled and tapped, which made me cringe because this thing was beautiful. The stock did not have a mark on it. The Bluing was 100% and it was clean, the bore looked like it was brand new. I advised against any sort of alteration. I believe he was under the impression it was just some old rifle, he said it belonged to family member and it had been in a case for 15 years (hard to believe because it was so clean). He asked me what I thought it was worth, I had no clue and ball parked it at $800-$1200.

Was I far off? He said he would email me pictures. I would like to make an offer or see if he will part with it because I was so impressed with it. Silky smooth bolt, just an awesome rifle. Anyone have experience on how much they are worth?

I used to hunt with a guy that has a full wood carbine but I couldn't tell you the exact model. There are a few variables listed in the Blue Book but using that as a starting point, a model 1952 Rifle goes from $1800.oo @ 100% down to $550.oo @ 60%. The 1952 Carbine, $2000.oo for 100%, down to $600.oo for 60%. Not an item you see floating around every day.

Unaltered carbine in a cool caliber is closer to $2000 in my view. Very hard to find unmolested.....
You gave good advice, but he owns the rifle. Unless... he wants to sell.... LOL
 
MOre like $1200-2000 in any calibre in the descibed grade , no problem selling that all day long. 1952 is ussually the most usefull today as most were built in modern calibres. It really hurts to hear someone wants to D&T a quality gun like that that will never be made again due to cost. Dale Z!
 
And the 1950-1952 had the correct standard .264" bore unlike the 1903 at .266-268".......Harold

Standard 1952, not a carbine. Cal was .270 Winchester. I looked up bluw booke value: $2100 excellent, $1800 Very good.
 
They do vary quite a bit, but even a less desireable rifle in unmolested, excellent condition should fetch at the least $1200. The price would go up from there, depending on configuration and chambering.

I don't think you'd get $1800 for even an excellent Standard in .270 Win, maybe $1500. Now the same thing in a .257 Roberts, .358 Win or 9.3x62 - then you could probably get that kind of money.
