In my opinion this probably has to be the most... enlightening part of the forum. Mostly I browse the black/rifle section but lately I've found myself lurking around here more often for a few reasons.

Most importantly, I actually enjoy reading the majority of posts in this section. Particularly the ones by smellie - the guy seems like an Enfield encyclopedia.

The next big reason is the general lack of #######s and egos. There are a few other reasons but I won't get into them.

Anyway, I didn't want to make this too long, just wanted to say thank you to the various member for their contributions to this section. Now it's time to go back to lurking.

Carry on :D

Now you've done it! He'll be insufferable from now on. sarcastic winkyface ;-)

Milsurp rifles are real and they have a real place in history. There were often designed to perform specific duties, and there are interesting generations of changes to them. For some people, having a milsurp is having a piece of actual history and using it in the same manner as our Fathers and GrandFathers used it had a great value in understanding the hardships they suffered to give us the freedom we have.

When I rarely scan other topics, I read about a bunch of guys judging firearms by how hard it makes their weenie. "Tacticool" or tactical .22 rimfires?? maybe when these people grow up, they can where big boy pants and shoot real guns. i don't think i could sit in a room with these guys and keep a straight face.

Couldn't have said it better myself man!

smellie?
Yeah he knows one or two things about enfields and many other things.

By the way smellie
I have a wart on my ass...
Any recommended procedures to rid of it?

I was thinking perhaps 5gr of FFG and a match

I agree and its nice to see people who don't think it's cool to turn their 10/22s and sks's into robot-dildos. I'm pretty new to CGN but I could quickly see who actually knew what they were talking about.

Especially when you have around TEN interesting milsurps for the price of just ONE good F-TR rifle and scope.

With that you only get to talk to one bunch of experts but with ten different milsurps your conversation circle increases ten-fold!!!

Lol @ robot-dildo

Yeah, that's another reason that spurred me to to post this. Guys talking about their latest AR15 "build" (you mean the rifle you cobbled together from premade parts?) or their "rig" (as if they use the thing for work). To me, certain sections of the forum seem to be more about showing off your high priced toys that get shot solely from a bench. :p

Smellie is much more than just an "enfield " expert, I have the honer of knowing him personally. This mans intellectual and historical meanderings have DE-ruttefied (sorry S.) my mind many times- he is fascinating ,patient and honorable. One of the most fascinating men I have ever met.

as to;

What you really want is det cord. Make short work of the whole mess.

Or (from my mom)
tie a short piece of piano wire around said offensive body part and tie the end to a 50 pound anvil. When you can walk around comfortably the problem is solved.

hope this works.
jan

by the by- this works on most any offensive body part one can tie something too.

Just don't call the German eagle above the swastika a "dirty bird" and you'll be fine here. Ah what the hell, call it what you want.

I'm with you guys on this topic. I love reading the milsurp posts the most and have learned lots. Keep the info coming guys

After reading many of smellie's posts here, I've thought that he should write his own milsurp book, so that all his knowledge is preserved for the future.

I'll second that. And it's time you were on Youtube as well.;)

More like ten magnitudes; sure you can start talking about them, but then someone will bring up where two of them had fought against and/or with one another and then it starts getting into comparisons, then someone else will mention a third that has fought against/with the first two, and it just snowballs from there.

Testicool people can wax poetic about how prepared they think they are for a Red Dawn remake or a zombie outbreak... and after that all they got is comparing laser pointers.
