Guys I've got out the old 243 and dusted it off. Just going to fine tune it tomorrow. I'm shooting some 80 gn federial ammo .

Do you think 2 inches high at 100yds is ok for sight in ? most shots are going to be 60-200 maybe yards.

With my .243 shooting 55 grain NBT at 400 yards I holdover about 3 inches.
When I switch to the 90 grain NBT I drop about 12 inches at 400.

I also sight my rifle in at 2 inches high at 100.

I am shooting 90g scenars and mine is sighted in for a 200 yard 0. This gives me 1" high at 100 and 1.75" low at 300.

Pardon me!!
To get that bullet to shoot that flat, you will have to drive it close to 4000 fps.
This is not possible with a 243.
Sighted to be dead on at 200, even starting that bullet at around 3200 fps, it will be down about 5" at 300.
I shoot the same bullet from my 6mm Remington, and it is a nice bullet with a decent BC, but doesn't shoot that flat at the velocities possible in any 243/6mm currently available.

.243 for coyotes

I used a .243 for years, works well. I load 75 G. V-MAX and push them hard. I feel the .243 works better in the wind than the .22 center fires.I also find the V-MAX isn't too hard on the hides.I sight in dead on at 200 yds.The 6 mm Rem. also works very well, you can reach out a long way with both.

Thanks for the info guys. We'll see tomorrow as I hit a yote running at 200 yards with a 85 gn SP and not real sure where it hit but he went down and flopped and got back up and ran. To dark to follow tonight so morning will be the time. Lots of blood and spraying with every running jump.

This dog came into howling just before dark...

I haven`t used a 243 for coyotes for some time as the bullets i was using weren`t fur friendly. Worked up a load for a friend using 58gr. Hor.vmax, kind of anxious to see how they perform on critters. Hope you have good luck with your 243.
