My non restricted Pal expires in July. I am taking the restricted PAL course next weekend. Does the restricted Pal cover non restricted as well? Do I end up with a single PAL that covers both?

What steps do I need to take to ensure I'm good to go for both PAL's?

Well considering you need the Non Restricted to get the Restricted, I'd say that it covers both.

On your application when you pass the test, just check Non-Restricted and Restricted

I think he means will he still have to renew his old PAL if he gets his RPAL in the mean time but I am not positive so don't flame me.

When I got my RPAL they sent me a new license with an extended expiry date

What causes this confusion is our habit of referring to Non-Restricted and Restricted PAL's. THERE IS ONLY ONE PAL. The ENDORSEMENT on it can be for Non-restricted, Restricted, 12-6,12-5 and a whole buch of other prohibited. If you have a NR endorsement, and apply for restricted after passing the R exam, they send you a Restricted AND Non-Restricted PAL
