Hey,

I just ordered this rifle from Canadian Tire. Has anybody read anything or seen one of these? No hogs in southern Ontario as far as I know, but I think it might make a good bush gun for deer. I ordered it in .308. I like that it has iron sights because I like using them and its hard to find new rifles that come with them.

Anyone have any input? Talk me out of it or tell me I made a good choice.

Here are a couple of links:

i would of liked to have one but i bought a h&r single shot instead. i didnt even know these were avalable in canada yet! looks like a nice rilfe. and its has sights! one reason i ordered the it because or the reliabliltiy on a single shot rifle and the small compactness of it. what did you pay for it?

Wow, there is a Canadian Tire that sells firearms? Are local Canadian Tire just sells ammo and accessories.

That rifle doesn't turn my crank but the threaded barrel is kind of interesting. I've always liked Savage's rifle sight design.

theres an older CT in calgary that sells rifles, apparently there is some older staff there that is fairly knowledgable and good to deal with. The rest of them in the city arent of much help other than to open the glass case.

That CT is owned by the same guy that has the CT in Red Deer, which also sells firearms. Their staff is no less knowledgeable than anyone I've ever encountered at the average gun store... but it's still Canadian Tire, so don't expect too much.:p

That Hog Hunter looks pretty cool ! Accutrigger , sights, med. contour 20" threaded barrel. Can't see that it's ready for a scope though; if it was and had a detachable mag., I'd buy it for that price. Perfect scout rifle if it had a ten round mag.- Ruger would be having a fit at that price.

Word. A detachable mag would be a sure selling point for me. I mean, I've got it coming anyway, but that would make it better. And it is drilled and tapped for a scope.

I'm interested in one too (.308) but the stock look cheap any replacement stock available for this carbine?

I could be wrong but it is just a model 11 action so I think anything you could get for that should work. However, the stock is part of what makes it the "Hog Hunter." It has a rough texture unlike other Savage synthetics, made for esay gripping in wet weather.
