I decided to head above the area that I heard the yotes all howling from the setup last night. It was well after day light and I walked in with snow shoes and made my way down a old unmaintained road and as I get to the feild that I want to setup I spot a yote out way across the other side.

I got down and grabbed the pup call in my lanyard from the Quakerboy howler pack and blast off a number of Jack rabbit distress and the yote belines right towards me running the whole field and stops at 50 yards on a WOLF.

The 243 did the trick and down she went.

I spot another one running back into the woods aross the field so I walked across and setup on the edge of the woods. Started calling with the JRD for 2 minutes on Vol. 21 and pause for 2 minutes. Changed to the lighting Jack and turned up the volume to 38 and let loose for 2 minutes and then lowered it for 30 seconds to vol. 21 and pause.

Out to my right a whole half turn the other yote comes out into the field. He catches me try to move to my right and starts to run. I fired one shot at him but a miss.

Todays hunt told me Don't quit calling even if you shot one and one runs off. 1 minute or less t kill one and 10 minutes later to get a shot at the other...

the reddish tinge does seem very much to be an eastern/ontario thing!

Adrian, have you ever tried the Hornady VMAX bullets? I find them very fur friendly, rarely get a pass through with them. I reload, but have bought factory Hornady VMAX ammo in .223 so they probably also sell them in .243. I presume the SP bullet you used left a big exit wound?

There are 58 gr, 65 gr, 75 gr and 87 gr Vmax bullets made in .243. I believe the 58 gr version is most popular. The 60 gr Vmax is a superb choice for the .223.

No George the hole was about the size of a quarter. I was surprised and the same with last nights yote. I'm cheap as they come so for something like yotes I just bought the cheap stuff, but am surprised how they have worked so far. I have a whole box of Speer Full metal jackets for the 243 from years ago I should get them loaded up...
