I was cleaning my NP-29, and just before I got it back together, the recoil spring retainer (the part that holds the spring on to the bushing) escaped to parts unknown (somewhere in the depths of my gun maintenance room). Anyone know where I can pick up a spare? Or am I destined to search through the dark corners of my maintenance room?

Try the place you bought it at first. Lots of times, they get returns that they can "part out" . Stuff that got damaged in shipping etc. Anyhow, I've heard of dealers keeping spare parts on hand for common items.....(spring loaded parts!!) I got lucky and mine hit my garage door and hit open area. It was easy to see.

You talking the recoil spring plug? I believe any 1911 plug will work. Put a WTB on the EE.

The Axiom of MIA Gun Parts....

The day your replacement arrives is the day you find the missing one.

Ask me how I know this....

NAA.

Actually, I have a full-length guide rod, so an ordinary recoil spring plug won't work. The guide rod actually goes through the plug under recoil. I guess I'll be giving the dealer a call in the morning...

Jebus man, start looking! A spring retainer is about the size of a AAA battery. Unless your gun room is a metal scrap yard, how lost can it be?
I'll give you a hint....it went the direction your were holding the pistol last :p .
Try losing extractor springs on carpet or only hear your 1911 safety detent spring bounce out of earshot.

Well, bad luck seems to follow me so, I'll give you the low-down.

Last week, I was cleaning the gun in the maintenance room. No sooner than the retainer went "sproing" did the power go out ( I had a thread in the off-topics area about this particular power outage and everything. The lights went out in mid-"sproing"). I don't know where the fugging thing went to 'cause I was too woried about getting the furnace working again to keep my house from freezing.

Ever try and find a ljungmann sight detent ball and spring? I have, and was successful.

Anyway, rant over.

I lost a needle valve spring out of a seadoo carb once while cleaning it over crushed rock. I feel your pain, like almost all '98 seadoo parts it was discontinued. I managed to figure out a current kawi used the same carb and ordered the spring. I then spent about 45 minutes combing through the crushed rock and found the damn spring.

In other words go ahead and order the cheapest one you can because the original will miraculously appear once you give up hope of finding it. That or drag a powerful magnet around (providing the spring is ferrous).

I changed mine to a two piece SS guide rod and retainer with the matching King SS barrel bushing. Send me your address PM and I will mail you my original.
