Good Book On ARs For New Guy?

Can you imagine all the dumb questions I would ask..............

Thanx guys.

Got 2 Sweeney books on order from Amazon.

I've posted this before, it's a link to an entire video library on how to build an AR-15. Everything from tips, walk throughs, tools needed etc. etc. IMO the best reference on the AR15 out there. This link should be stickied

The Sweeney books are good reference. I find the earlier editions have more info and the later editions just expand on what is new today. He also have a "gunsmithing" the AR15 which is a pretty good book.

+1 for the Brownells articles as well.

The Sweeny books are good, there's a small chunk in the front end of them that is indespensible. That said, there's a large chunk of fluff where he reviews specific rifles from specific companies. These portions are basically useless filler.

Any volume of 'The Gun Digest Book of the AR-15' written by Patrick Sweeny would be a good start.

x2. I have all three volumes. Great info from the design and beginnings right to step by step building your own AR from scratch. Lots of diagnostic tips for problematic guns of the franken variety as well as interesting info on the AR manufacturers and what's what with regard to their quality etc.

Highly recommend these books!

Honestly, the history stuff is an understatement. The front end of the Sweeny books explain some really important concepts about firearms in general (not just the AR15). For instance, one section talks about throat erosion and how to bullets actually have to jump between the cartridge neck and the lands, which is why it's very important not to reef steel cleaning rods back and forth in your barrel. They're very thorough. That said, the 3rd book is the gunsmithing one.
