I have bin toying with the idea of playing with the .416 for a precision rig...
This thing is a beast to shoot off the bench ,,Was talking with Gunboy about it and he hooked me up with one of his brake ,,Thanks Man...

Hopefully i can get the stock painted up and finished for spring .

So starting out it will be a 416 rem mag ..eventually finishing with a 408 cheytac improved...the journey begins..

this one is 18 inch
im going with a Stiller tac 408 for that build but it comes in 2 diameters dunno which one yet....

Please note that Jamison is no more so the supply of Chey Tac brass just got murky.

There will be some major brands coming out with 416 monsters so let me know if interested.

416 Rigby is the largest off the shelf boomer you can get with a few options for brass at this time.

This is to bad Jamison made some hard to get calibers, and there quality was way better than Beetram.

Brass availability is a big issue...
i did a lil search on wikki net to get water capacities
178gr-505 Gibbs
159gr-408Cheytac
140gr-378Weatherby
128gr-416Rigby
114gr-338Lapua
110gr-300rum
99gr-8mmRem mag

i wounder if a necked up Lapua improved would be ...good brass available for this one???
or the 416 Weaatherby ????

Decide on the performance you want, then try and find a case that will get it done.

Simple.

This is one of your guns big guy, that I probably won't ask to shoot!! Looks cool. You will need to bring targets though, mine won't stop those bullets.
Is the 338 edge for sale?

I would strongly consider not building anything based on the 408 Cheytac casing seeing as all parties involved in the caliber are now history. That will mean difficulty in obtaining brass, which is a fairly important consideration in my books.

I still got those plates with no holes in them to bring `18"AV round and a
18x10" wear plate....
no not selling the Edge i have too much fun (concussions) with that thing ..:p
i dont have any thing to compare tooo but the 18 inch i think doesnt loose much in velocity with barrel lenght .... this one will push a 350 Speer at 2550 av,,and a 400 Barnes x at 2350... i dont know what velocity is obtainable with a 24 or 26 inch barrel???

Hey there so I know this is a old thread but hoping for the best. I want to build a longer range 416 rem or rig. Will be a single shot so COAL ident a problem. Hornadys 450 bthp match is what I want to shoot. Will be off of a savage action. 500 yards and under. Any suggestions on barrel length or loads. Also thinking of the same thing but with a 375 RUM.

In my next long range rifle project would be 338 Raptor (based on 338 Excalibur brass) from Kirby Allen (Allen Precision Shooting). He also sells 408 Chey Tac brass. Maybe it is a good choice for you?
