sks muzzle brakes?

Odds are (unless you have a lathe, know somebody, or get a killer deal) getting your muzzle threaded is going to run you atleast $50 (from what I can find). To get a decent muzzle device, your going to be paying $50+. Assuming you can get your SKS threaded to the VZ thread pitch, you could use a variety of muzzle devices currently available to us Canadians. Or you could get it threaded to the common 1/2"-28 and use most AR ones, but you would have to get it bored out to a 30cal bullet. There are a few available in 30cal, but more limited. Real world, after shipping and stuff, your probably looking at $150+, or just get a cheap Chinese one. Either way, you'll probably get the same results.

Hical sells a thread adaptor for sks. You put it on you muzzle held there with 4 set screws and it gives you 14x1 LH threads. You can put on any ak style brake.

I'm aware of that, sksman sells them as well. Honesty if you want to do it, go for it. Most people in this thread are just giving you their honest opinion and or experience.

People put muzzle devises. ie: flash hiders, muzzle brakes and compensators. On ARs and mini 14s. Chambered in .223. So what's the big stink about putting one on a sks for the 7.62x39? Hell the vz/cz 858 has a variety. It will reduce recoil and look cool while doing so. I don't see the problem. I just wanted some advice on what some of the gear out there so I didn't just burn more $.

A nc star brake will not reduce recoil at all, because like someone mentioned, the diameter is not the same as the muzzle. It is just for looks. Now if you thread the muzzle and put a proper one on, go for it, it will look cool an actually be functional

I dont get why everyone laughs at the fact of putting a muzzle brake on a SKS...I mean, alot of people put them on CZs, ARs and AKs...Doesn't have that much kick, but if you can take some kick out, even slightly, why not?

I know it's only a 200$ rifle, but some people actually love this rifle and price is not the issue.

How much would properly threading the muzzle cost to put on a CZ or AK muzzle on it?

I'd be interested in that if it's under 100$.

Just my two cents.
Well, the CZ is designed to have a brake/compensator and require no modifications and the military compensator work well to tame the muzzle jump, its not about recoil its because the CZ is very light at the muzzle. A SKS in muzzle heavy and i would not like the fact that the bayo cant be used with a brake:p If someone want to put a brake on a SKS fine, but as other have said, to be effective would have to be a good brake but holding things with pin or sets screws is a pain.... and having the muzzle threaded require the proper equipment. Just my 2 cents:)

Why then do AK-74's have Muzzle Brakes?

I'd imagine full auto has alot to do with that...

I think Fyn has probably right answer to that :p

But on the other hand, if yu still want to put one, its your gun and your money. I think your best bet is this one, its short ( read not too heavy ), the fit is pretty tight. This is not a flash hider or a muzzle brake, its more like climb compensator.

I've heard bad things about the short nc star muzzle brake. One guy even commented that it had come flying of the end of his barrel. That's what I read whether it's true I have no Idea. I find some forums are 60% fact, 30% uneducated opinion and 10% trolling. lol

I use the twist on muzzle brake on my sks.
I had to check it every 20 rounds, but the screw is inadequate, I finally strip it and need to change it.
The device is more for the muzzle climb then the recoil

I actually found this video linked to it:

probably the most effective way at reducing "recoil" on the SKS, weigh it down by piling crap on it lol.

Wow, what a douche.
$300 worth of crap on a $200 rifle, plus an additional $400 night vision scope........good lord.

+1 Maybe i'm a purist but this is the worst sks i have seen. Its not the fact its a $200 rifle, its about being an SKS. SKS's are very good in their original configuration, adding lot of junk on it ruin the handy rifle that the SKS is at first and will never make it better for range or accuracy. A stock CZ858 is way better than an SKS loaded with all that junk.....:stirthepot2:

I discovered this over 25 years ago when my buddies hacked up, modified and or "improved" their SKS rifles. Not one of them improved its groups, but try telling people this. Dumb people don't understand that they do dumb things.

Wow........not too sure what to say about that i wonder if he's figured out that its still an sks under all that chairborne ranger bull####

Is that a spotting scope on the sks?

I made some mods to mine. Choate scope mount and scope. Can't say accuracy is improved much, but I can see the target better.

I've seen the vid too...

Yeah the worst :p
I would like to see him firing this thing, his hubble telescope is way too back !!!

wtf is that. I can see putting a pistol grip stock, a device to stop muzzle climb okay, maybe a bipod or vertical grip. But I'm not even sure what he's got on that rifle. It looks like a spotting scope or something. One a different forum I seen a guy using an eotech holo sight. Aren't those 3 times the price of the rifle?
