I received my new SAM last week and took it to the range this week. I put 200 rounds through it and loved it. I was surprised as there was not much more kick to it than my M&P 9 mm. Anyway I was using the ACT mag (same as the one that comes with the gun) and every magazine I loaded up with 8 when I would first pull back the slide so it would slide forward and chamber the first round it would not close and did not fully chamber the round. I would have to eject the mag and take out the first round then it worked no problem. I was using Blazer Brass 230 grain FMJ. It never had this problem if I loaded the magazine to 7 or less rounds. Anybody have this problem? I had no other issues with it and I loved shooting it.

Same here on my Commander edition.. 8 rounds=No Good... 7 rounds = Happiness..

On mine, if I load 8 the first round will always nose dive. I can keep "Slingshotting" and eventually get it to chamber. I finally gave up and only load 7 rounds now.

I'm going to get some 10 round mags from Arms East eventually.

Yeah I pretty much gave up on 8 and ran 7 with no issues at all. Not a big problem I just wanted to see if anyone else was having this

I shot mine today too and had the same problem with the ACT mag and 5 Meccars (same manufacturer for both mags). The Meccars have worked flawlessly in my Nork for almost 10 years so I know they are fine. Did not bring the Nork to test the ACT mag in.

I am going to replace the stock recoil spring with one from Wolff and I'm pretty sure that will solve the issue. Other than that I love my Sam.

What recoil spring do you get? Where and what do I buy to fix that? I am new to the handgun seen so I dont know a whole lot about it.

Go here: gunsprings.com There are different power springs, the 18 lbs factory standard should be fine and it is $7.89 US.

There is an FAQ page to explain the differences between the different power springs.

My Nork and home build AR have complete Wollf springs. When I have to replace springs for maintenance in other guns, these are what I buy.

Canada shipping friendly obviously.

You can also buy a mag spring to replace the ACT one. It is the one used in the Wolff mag pictured here.

Notice the profile, base and small Made in Italy script on the mag. It's an ACTmag with another company name at the base.

So you can buy 25-30 dollar mags or a new recoil or mag spring for $8.00.

I had the same problem with the first round "nosediving" and not feeding but I thought it was because of my reloaded ammo. I am using the same bullet as the .45 Colt ammo that I use in a 1873 Clone which is shorter than normal.
Other than that I really like the SAM, it is a good looking gun and is accurate, here are some pictures:

My SAM Commander (four ACT mags, all newish) has zero problems with 8 rounds. That last one is a tight fit, but they feed flawlessly. I'm shooting Budget Shooter Supply's factory reloaded ammo. Good price and no problems so far.
