M14 would be a good start. They're fun and cheap ...

Fun, yes. Cheap, no. He's taking about an LRB, not a Norc!

That is a brutally tough choice. For me, the Keltec would most definitely be out because I don't like bullpup rifles. The H&K and DPMS would be awesome, but if I were forced to choose I'd be seriously torn between the high end M14 and the RA XCR. I'd lean that way, mostly because of the advantages of having a non-restricted to play with around the countryside. I've got the usual tweaked and tuned Norc M14 and an XCR in .223 and I love 'em both.

I voted the DPMS for similarity to my ARs as a second I would get the Keltec RFB. In a land awash with M14's and M1A's those seems the hardest to get for me. Kinda hard for me since I have a job and am forced to support the 50% who don't work or pay taxes here. :(

Me I pick the RFB and could not be happyer! Probably not the most accurate probably 1 to 2 moa gun with decent ammo but for the fact that its unrestricted, 27 inch long for crying out loud, my most reliyable gun, cool looking, soft shooting, easy to mount optic and unbeatable warrenty and customer service!

For quality, durability, and reliability, I would choose the HK... But I could not afford one in real life so would end up with and SKS or Chinese M14 like most folk.

Here a picture from gun blast comparing it to the dpms sass same lenght barrel!

If I had a LOT of money, I'd go for an FNAR. As it is, you can buy an M305 and a few thousand rounds for the same money, which is a far better value...

I don't get the appeal. The FNAR looks like a Shotgun, a Bolt-action and an AR had an orgy and gave birth to fraternal, conjoined twins. I just looks...wrong.

Personally, I would pick up something in wood and iron, like the M14 or an FN-FAL variant. Or even an AR-308 variant with a walnut stock set.

Just to add even more options, I started looking at the SG 542 at Tactical Imports as an option too (non-restricted has its advantages after all). That is if I don't buy another rifle before they enter the country....:p

I'm still kinda leaning towards the HK MR308 or the RFB, but not sure whether I want a 16" or 20" barrel if I go with the HK. My only misgivings are the cost of mags and spare parts (my same concern with the RFB). Does anyone know the cost of HK mags compared to FAL mags in Canada?
