Why are Glocks so reliable?

It was specificly meant to get opinions on what makes the glock pistol so reliable.

Those questions were answered on the first couple of pages. The rest of this is a train wreck.

If i was equipping our military with a general duty pistol, i would likely buy the G19, cheap, reliable and lightweight. I love sigs and have 5, but I fear that our military with it's OCD cleaning methods will destroy the alloy frame quickly. Also hearing that in Asia they been having corrosion issues with the frames. I would consider the 2022, but I suspect Glock would win out on weight and price.

Apart from sights, are the Tier 1 guys running stock Glocks? Or are there popular mods (-1 connector, for example)?

I would guess that the overwhelming majority run them stock, for two reasons:

1) you mess with the internals of a Glock, you potentially affect the reliability

2) these are guys that do not need any crutches to shoot well

And the pistol chosen by the Los Angeles Police S.W.A.T. was...wait for it... the Kimber 1911 in .45acp. No budget restraints, no legislated caliber restraints, just the need for the best pistol to do what they wanted the gun to do

I heard somewhere the LAPD have wholesale abandoned their Kimbers....can anyone substantiate that?
