Savage 10/110 BA - Suggestions

I was thinking of getting two Savage 10/110 BAs, one 10 BA "short action" in 308 and the 110 BA "Long Action" in 338.

Has anyone had experience with these models? MOA, preferred rounds, quality issues, etc.

What is your setup? Scope, accessories, etc.

I've got a 110 in 300WM. It shot a good 1 MOA with Hornady superperformance 180 gr sst bullets.

Mine likes my hand loads much better.

I think you would be crazy to buy a 10 BA as well as a 110.

Mine sports a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 LRMOA scope in Burris Xtreme Tactical rings on the factory base.

Here is my Savage 110BA in 300WIN.MAG. and i have a under half MOA at 100yards with my own ammo.and i am very happy with it, you can see in these picture as well.it's with Millett 6 x 25 x 56 with 35MM tube.

I have a M14 in 308 so i need a long action but not big calibre like 338 LM ,( My Personal preference ) other thing is cost of ammo for 338LM is way more then 300WM even if you reload your own ammo, anyway this is my thinking over all i am very happy with this .

308 is a goofy round. Very slow and it doesn't cost much less to shoot then the 300 WM.

338 is cost. I can reload 300WM for about 1/2 the price of a 338 LM.

Also the down range power you gain with a 338 isn't important to me.
 
I'll be heading out for some preliminary range time this weekend, my rig is the 110 BA in 338LM

It's got a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 LR MIL DOT scope in medium Burris Xtreme Tactical rings on the factory base, almost the exact set-up as K0na :)

I ordered the 338LM because it was the same price (all in) as a 308 version locally and couldn't find any reasonable priced used ones either.

Got in on the great deal on S&B 338LM ammo and the EE supplied 1F Brass and reloading dies.

Looking forward to this boomer :D
 
Something else to consider is recoil. At just under 16 lbs the Win Mag won't be too uncomfortable to shoot without the brake if etiquette or range rules require it to come off. I've never fired a 338 Lapua but I'd be suprised if it wasn't over the top at the same weight without a brake. Also are there any restrictions at the range you frequent? 338 LM is not allowed at mine.

Both my local indoor range (Phoenix) and outdoor range (CHAS) allow 338LM (Edmonton, AB).

While the brake on the 110 BA is removable it's not something I'd want to do. Crush washers are required and I'd rather not muck with them.
 
110ba is nice . I would like one but its too expensive.
338 lm is too expensive for me to justify it. There is no moose that will survive a 300wm hit to 1000 yards. Do you need your gun to kill a moose at 1600 yards? I dont

I don't know of anyone that takes a 1000yd shot at a moose. Additionally, while I love the 110 BA there is no way I'd want to hump it into the bush. Way better options for hunting than it. The Savage Long Range Hunter for example.

Mine is for paper punching and varmint culling.
 
I have 7MM REM.MAG. for hunting and i am very happy with it, reasons i have 300WM it's for my long range shooting because i love long range shooting.

300WM is a goofy round. Not nearly the long-range ballistics of 338LM and costs quite a bit more to shoot than the 308 when you factor in barrel costs.

Actually, I quite like 300WM, but my point is it's all relative.

I think having this rifle in both 308Win and 338LM is kind of brilliant, as you have a comfortable and cheap shooting trainer with exactly the same user fit as your expensive and more punishing shooting long range rifle. It just depends how you want to spend your money. Good idea, OP.

I'm a 223 guy rather then 308. But I like were your going. Maybe I'll have to pick up a 338.:D
 
I have a 10 FCP in .223 and it will reach out a good distance but not much punch at long range. I seriously thought of a .338 but sanity prevailed and I didn't buy one.

If you are into long range maybe a .338 would be good however a .308 is good to 1000+ and think you could do much better by using a .308 and contacting Mystic Precision.
 
i would love to get one of these guns someday maybe when i started working as a welder when i get out of school.Right now i have my m14 norinco / savage 22-250 axis or w/e they call em now
 
If you REALLY wanna do something awesome. Get the 110BA in 338 Lapua Mag. Then build a 260 rem improved or maybe a 6.5-284. Run a 250SMK in the 338 and a 140Berger VLD, and if you can get an accuracy node around 2850fps for both they will have identical ballistic trajectories.

0.264 140gn berger VLD G7 B.C. is 0.313
0.338 250gn SMK G7 B.C. 0.314

Litz Numbers.

Have a cheaper shooting practice gun and still learning your big boomer. That sir, is awesome!
 
Finally took out the 110 BA 338LM to the local range.

WOW! Tres awesome :sniper:

The kick is definitely there but the brake and the overall weight/design make it a non-issue IMHO. If you've fired a light weight 308 you'll be just fine.

Can hardly wait to stretch it's legs outside with some paper punching and Yote culling :D
