Barrel swapping question.

Hey guys, I'm building my first precision from scratch and have a quick question about it.

I'm buying a milspec 5r barre in .308l, and can get my hands on the action from an sps. Will it function the same as the 5r in terms of accuracy or was there something else about the 5r that im missing? I'm putting an aftermarket stock and trigger group in as well.

the only thing "special" about the 5r is the barrel, actoions are the same as every other 700, but they are stainless not black coated like the sps.

for a little more then buying a 5r take off u can get a match barrel, kreigher, shelin, etc and have better results, as it stands your putting a factory barrel on a acotry action, so you will have factory results.

I'm pretty sure a 700 action is a 700 action. The guys in the know will tell you to get the action trued, may as well get the action worked on while it's apart. As the Monkey said if it's a little more for a match barrel you ay as well spend the money and get the best you can afford.
 
Have the sps action trued and it will perform as well or better than any 40 X repeater, the quality of the barrel and the install will decide the rest.
