SX3 or Maxus reviews or info?

I am looking at purchasing a new or used Winchester SX3 or a Browning Maxus. Any reviews good or bad would be appreciated on these 2 models.

I am looking for a gun that will be used mainly for trap, and mainly for my wife. So I am looking for something a bit lighter weight, and light recoiling. (I know those two qualities are somewhat counter productive.) She will occasionally use it hunting with me, but I don't necessarily need the 3 1/2" chambers, 3" is plenty.

The two models I have been considering are the Maxus Carbon Fibre or Stalker, and the SX3 Black Shadow.

I know the Maxus Carbon Fibre one is available in 3 inch, and the SX3 Black Shadow is only available in 3 1/2"

If anyone could report whether these 2 models will cycle light ammo, (1oz or maybe even 7/8 oz loads)

Any feedback or info is welcome, but please only for the Maxus or SX3's. I have several higher end shotguns, and I know there are better ones out there, but at this time I am only looking for a shotgun in the price range of these 2 models.
 
i had a borwing silver 12gauge. the maxus and silver have similar gas opperating systems. i never found a shell that my gun would not cycle. i picked up some low recoil 7/8oz rounds for my little cousin to use. they gave me no trouble. you need to keep the gas valve in the forearm clean. i have done 500round days and not a hickup.

actully now that i think about it. when i was doing all my research and bought my browing. i belive the sx3 and the silver are the same action and system.
 
I have owned 4 different models of Browning autoloaders beginning many moons ago with the A-5. I have owned two Golds, a Gold10 and a Gold Golden Clays Sporting Clays. I have owned the Silver MODB waterfowl edition. The silver is the same gun as the SX3 albeit $100 or so less in price, guts are identical. I currently own a Maxus. I have never had an issue EVER with any one of them. All have performed flawlessly. Of the 4 models I have had I would have to say that the Maxus, my current autoloader is my favorite. If I were going to choose between a Maxus and an SX3 my vote overall would be the Maxus. It is without a doubt the softest shooting auto I have ever used and when Browning advertised it as having next to nothing for muzzle jump they were not kidding. It sits flat when you fire, the barrel does not climb. Nice for fast follow up shots! I like many of the other features as well. The gas piston is a one piece assembly which is nice when it comes to cleaning. I like the built in sling clip on the end of the for-end and the turnkey mag pug is handy too, especially if you are going on the spring snow goose hunt in areas where more than 3 shells are permitted. Best of all it is light in weight, works well when coming to a seated position in a layout blind when you have to push open the doors with a gun in one hand as you come up from laying back. Nice too for chasing a wounded goose across 100 acres of cut grain, the gun doesnt weigh you down.That's my take on them, hope that helps some
 
I purchased a Maxus last summer off someone from this site and I absolutely love the gun. Best shotgun I have ever owned.Not a single problem with it.
Very easy to take down and re-assemble for cleaning.
 
My buddy has a Maxus and shoot nice... just don't let the plunger/spring assembly get dirty (by dirty I mean an entire year and a half worth of use while duck hunting in all possible ugly conditions for 2 seasons) or it will jam...

Myself I bought a used xtrema 2...
 
A friend has a Maxus, and I just purchased an SX-3 Flanigan recently. Both will easily cycle light target loads, but I prefer the higher rib of the SX-3.

LOL I did the same thing 2 years ago. My old silver would occasionally jam with 7/8 loads, otherwise its a fine gun. I personally don't like the raised rib and didn't care for the return spring assembly as mentioned.

It will double as a hunting gun for her and my son. Plus, she really likes the blacked out shotguns. Her favorite in the safe now is my synthetic black Extrema II,but it's fairly heavy. I'm pretty stuck on the 12 gauge, she can handle shooting them just fine. She's trying to lay claims on my Caesar Guerini, but that isn't going to happen. Lol.
I guess that's a downfall to getting your wife out shooting with you, now she wants your stuff.
 
I really like my SX3. Only problem is the grey synthetic stock gets stained from shooting. Other than that it's awesome, shoots fast with little recoil.
 
She paid for half of it in the courts eye's so you are struck. Nice problem to have. Good luck.
