hey wat scope set do u have on ur sks? and whered ya get er from? im lookin ta upgrade mine

I never had any problems with a choate mount, and I can use stripper clps no problem. I wonder why the pics at the start of this thread all show the mount so far forward of the retainig pin on the dust cover? The choate instructions are clear where to mount.

Wow, this post was exactly what I was looking for, I love this site.

I was originally going to get a receiver cover rail with a reflex sight or an SKS scout scope mount with a smaller scope or reflex sight. But after reading all the posts I really dont know anymore. Im happy I dindnt go ahead and by them.

Im new to the SKS rifle and looking for somthing simple and accurate, the iron sights are not my favorite. There is honestly too many conflicting ideas and they all look great. What do you guys reccomend?

Thanks!

please forgive the picture but this is my SKS setup:

My recommendation to anyone looking to mod theirs for optics is don't go with the reciever cover setup. I've shot over 2000 rounds with this rifle and am constantly messing with the adjustments on the scope to get it on zero. It just doesn't hold. It looks really slick but the only saving grace is that the open sights are still there to use; the scope is next to useless. Other experiences might be different but I'll be looking at a different setup eventually.

Scout scope mount and red/green reticle...Cheek riser from Israeli Defense a must.

I am really happy with this set up. At 100 Meters I'm hitting a 4inch target circle from the bench with some respectable groups. At 150M easily hitting the gong. Close range (10 to 20meters) off hand shooting it is great. Much better since I got the cheek riser though

Some more quick detachable options to mount on the same side rail:

side rail made by Tula for SKS

Russian military Red Dot made in Belarus on Tula side rail

POSP 2-6x24 variable magnification made in Belarus on the same rail

Okay I really want one of these mounts and sights. Where do I find them and what is the cost.

WE went the easy route on these SKS's... UTG Tri-Rail receiver covers were filed down for very tight fit... installed bolt buffers and "scope-protecting" shell deflectors... mounted UTG 4X32mm Bug Busters... this inexpensive set-up is holding up... POI has not moved yet... thru 500 rounds (fingers crossed), pinned mag (5 shot), 1" butt pads, and Choate cheek pieces;

I am now a convert and part of the 1% that knows that the reciever cover can be made 100% stable for a sight and it will hold a zero,,,

Rock solid, and can be taken off for cleaning, replaced, fired, no need to re-zero,, I'll add pictures once I take a couple

This is from Marcus on Survivers SKS Boards. Total cost 1 x 1/4-20 round head bolt

Guys, there is an alternative. Use my 1/4-20 button head adaption and she will hold zero and is removable for cleaning.
1. Remove the dust cover pin, bolt, carrier and spring. (pin will need to ground)
2. Replace the dust cover.
3. Do not drill the hole. Tap a 1/4-20 (or finer) hole all the way out the other side from right to left. THE DUST COVER MUST BE ON WHEN YOU DO THIS. Or the threads won't line up properly.
4. Screw in the 1/4-20 heat treated, button head. Cut it off close to flush. Take it off, trim it, blue the end.
5. Put it all back together and go sight her in.

It says it on the top of the photo..........
"Scout scope mount and red/green reticle...Cheek riser from Israeli Defense a must."

Thats not exactly helpful. I do know how to read, but I am not familiar with a company called "Israeli Defense", and a google search doesn't turn up anything.

Does anybody have a link to an online source for these cheek risers?
