What do you guys think? a question of ethics.

Do what most duck hunters do.. give him the first day of the season to hunt over the bait.. after that.. it's first come first serve on the spot.. (I do this for Turkey as well, as some guys setup a blind on public land.. I give them the first day, and if it's a good spot.. I'm there 3 hours early the next day ;)

You hunt turkey over bait?.....

yup.. gotta do your homework and invest in scouting.. you'd be surprised how many crown land hunters don't want to spend 30 mins walking into a tract where where is no drive in access. when you got a good spot.. you find a blind (or set one up yourself for later use.)

Spoiled discarded meat is not the equivalent of a planted flag, and dumping meat as bait on public land doesn't grant the dumper any special entitlement.

The OP should feel free to continue hunting on that land, including in the vicinity of the bait piles. And if the OP has any doubt about that, he should consult the conservation officers.

The only thing that the bait dumper is "entitled to" is a summary offense ticket for dumping on crown land.

:agree::agree::agree:

It's crown land... everyone's to hunt.... you can't just throw out a bait pile and expect to be the only one to hunt over it.... If you feel awkward about it my suggestion would be to go to your local butcher and get some scraps of your own and help maintain it....

:agree: This is the way I would go as well. It's not private land and working together may benefit you both.

Leave a note by the pile in a ziplock bag, introduce yourself to the other hunter(s), you may just make a new friend out of the deal. Perhaps collectivly you guys could venture out and find something private. Problem solved.

Douchbag? LOL! I'd hunt it like you've always had, and leave sum more scrap. It's public land, which means everybody. Throwing your left overs around a field don't make it yours. He has to understand that its the only area around. There really isn't any reason you 2 can't be hunting buddies. Just don't be an idiot and call him a douchbag
