Norinco M305+520 7.62x51 with pictures

The rivet on the mags is exposed and does not interfere with the operation or removal. It was the mag catch not clearing the mag release lever when it was pressed. Three mags, all the same issue. All the same fix.
Just for my own education on the subject; So you are saying when you depress the catch it does not contact the rivet?

im guessing that they dont use good blocks of metal. so when the block is machined down bubbles appear and holes are welded.

You know what... I get what you are saying now. It probably was the lever pressing against the rivet. I thought you were saying the rivet was causing pressure inside the mag well seperate from the mag release lever.

Shaving the rivet would work too. I just didn't see that. :kickInTheNuts: That being said, I had the same problem with a 5 round mag. Wouldn't release and it didn't have the rivet in the first place. The mag also sat higher up in the mag well and it too needed the same trim as the 5/20 mags got for it to work.

Now when I press the latch it does not touch the rivet on the 5/20 mags, but that is because I shaved the catch on the mag itself to allow the mag release to not require as much travel to release the mag. Mag is still solid, and the release of the mag is quick and smooth.

Can anyone give me a little step by step tutorial on shaving down the *which ever part needs to be shaven down* in order to make releasing the mags a little easier?

Much appreciated.

Also great little review. I got this package and received the rifle earlier this month. Shoots like a charm!

file the head of the rivet but becareful with it . i hammered it first than used my dremel to shave the head
i havnt shot it yet but willcdo this weekend

I left the rivet alone and simply ground down the domino looking tab on the spine of the mag test fitting as I went. No special angles. Just flat and even removal of material until it slimmed down enough.

Wow looks better with pics. Any idea if this package will come around again? I really want One for my first rifle.

I just got an email from Canada Ammo saying that they'll be adding more short rifles on the website as they proof test them at the range.

They still have the 520 case in stock at the regular price of about $250.

It will cost you $100 more than the special but it's still a decent deal for someone wanting one of these as a first rifle.

hello everyone,
just wanted to update the review. i went to the range today and had a great time until some surplus looking guy started bashing norinco and he was all excited about how his Springfield costed him 2200. oh well stupid people are everywhere. oh by the way i had my all matching 1942 M1 Garand at the range too just to compare the two. here are the results. the ammo used is the ammo that came with the deal. steel case copper washed FMJ 143gr bullet.

Shot 100 rounds. i swapped the Chinese rear sight with an USGI rear sight as seen in the pictures. at first all my shots were off paper but after some tweaking it hit the spot. here are the results as i worked my way in to ZERO at 50 meters. the last 5 rounds made a 1/2" group as you can see. i was surprised.

I noticed a popcicle stick stappled to the ammo box in the picture also got one on my ammo box is there some reason for this?

Just finishing up accurizing make overs on a few of these new shorties. Will get to test fire over the next few days :D
