The local store here carrys a wide selection of NcStar optics but there is just something about them that makes me want to avoid them. What is the deal with these? They seem like they are clones of more quality optics but with much reduced price tags. Are they worth thier value or would money be better spent for a long term item?

They also have a lifetime warrenty but that it only viable if they are good to deal with. I guess I am looking for some personal experince with these optics.

Then trust your instincts and avoid them.

NCstar optics

In glass, you get what you pay for......don't shortchange yourself.....now that Leopold owns Redfield, try one...manufactured in 2010 or later....decent scope for the $$.
But......on a heavy recoil gun, go for top quality........Zeiss, if you can afford it.....

What about the Sightron line up? I will admit optics is most likely my largest weakness and I am trying to gain as much knowledge as I can, but there is nothing like experience, and why I love the CGN.

More specifically something like this?

Sightron SII Big SKY 6.5-20 X 50 Mildot or Dot Reticle

I am looking at it for my 7mm Rem Mag, which kicks like a mule. The crappy bushnell works but I want something for better low light, because it cost me a deer last fall. I could see it with my eyes but not in the scope.

Sightron would be a good choice. I don't have any experience with the SII series, but have tried out rifles topped with SIII series scopes, and was quite impressed with them.

Avoid ncstar completely, you will have trouble, when is the issue, not if. Sightron , makes a great product. SII is good SIII much better. You will not regret buying sightron, they are the Toyota of scopes. Maybe not the absolute best, but plenty good for 98% of shooters.

Once again another NcStar thread. The information you are getting is from people that have never tried the product all hear say because they are made in China like alot of other so called branded quality optic products. NcStar optics have their place in the market. If they fail for you get another one under the lifetime warrany and sell it, I have not had to sell one yet..........

This is exactly why you do NOT want ncstar. They are not reliable and in low light conditions they will not give you the optical advantage you are seeking. They are fine for plinking, but not for serious hunting. Fogging is an issue, holding zero is an issue, and low light...forget it.

It has nothing to do with them being made in China, and everything to do with them being cheaply made. You can get decent scopes for that are in the same price range, but they don't have all the "fancy" features the NC Star does. I actually just bought a Redfield Revolution 2-7x33, not because it was inexpensive, but because it's a good scope for $180, and one that I'm actually willing to stake a hunt on (or not have to battle with at the range). I've gone the cheap Chinese optics route before (not NC Star, but others... and not necessarily riflescopes), and am not going back... therefore I will warn against others doing the same.

Well then, here we go again. Allow me to weigh in. while I do not own one(will not ever), I have used a few friend's quite a bit. A few red dot models and an actual tube scope on a .308
Eye relief is shieet, as is glass. Threads are rough, turrets are mushy.

What did I miss? Tracking was laughable, mag adjuster was gritty.
anything else? Oh yeah...
Reticle was crooked in the tube, would not hold zero.

If you want to use them fine, but please don't encourage others...

I rest my case.... not NcSTAR, then how can you critique the product......

Picked scope up.

Looked through eyepiece.

Played with windage/elevation knobs.

Looked and felt like junk.

Put it down and never looked back.

After using decent optics, I don't know how anyone can stand using such a crappy POS, especially when there are much better scopes in the same price range.

Kinda the same warranty as "Triple Edge Wiper Blades" and a host of other K-Tel infomercial goods.
They won't give you your money back after 30 days are up, but they'll gladly supply you with a replacement POS. :D

Makes you wonder what their profit margin is on the optic when its cheaper to replace it than refund your money? Ah, f*ck it. I run quality glass and couldn't care less what cheap crap those who know little care to run. The rants at the range/match when their glass takes a dump is worth it.
