Hey Everyone, I'm just getting into the AR style rifles and was wanting to know what would be a better starter. I have access to buy a used AR180B for around $1800 or should I buy a new XCR-L?

One of the CSA VZ-58's in .223 would likely be the best option.

heres mine...i also have a 7.62 cz858 with the b&t adapter coming from wolverine, and a CSA gen2 adapter for the CSA 223
these 2 rifles are cheaper than 1 xcr

$1800??? You should be able to buy TWO AR-180B's for that.
They're great. I like mine a lot. They're not $1800 great.
Whoever it is that's trying to sell you that 180B is really thinking he's taking you for a ride.

I've tried both the xcr and the AR180b (and a Swiss Arms Classic Green, both flattop and irons for that matter)...I'm running the XCR right now and have no complaints. It's easily accurate enough for coyote hunting (which I did this afternoon, Woohoo! See above), and as easy as the others to pack around. I think it's likely easier to pack around than the other two, as there are so many different options for how you sling the rifle.

Also, there are lots of folks pooh-poohing that FAS stock...take their complaints with a grain of salt. I am an early adapter of the FAS stock and have not experienced anything nasty to date. Pretty happy with it actually as it allows for proper cheek weld with an Elcan Spectre Dr.

Cheers,

Brobee

I've owned both. If I had to decide between the two I'd pick the AR180b.

That being said, I sold both my XCR and my AR180b and now own a Swiss Arms with an NEA lower. I couldn't be happier.

I never owned an xcr so I do not know much about them. I have owned a an AR-180 B and with optics it shoots about as good as a CZ 858 with irons for quite a bit more money.

If you have an interest in AR, buy an AR. An AR-180B, or XCR, or swiss arms or SU-16, CSA with an adapter all share the same mag, but that is about it.

I agree. Ar180's are terribly over priced for what they are. The XCR would be the way to go in that price range, but as someone else pointed out, the CSA VZ58 in 5.56 is a far better deal for the money.
