Where to buy steel 22 silhouette targets in canada?

I am getting started participating in silhouette shooting at my range this weekend and I only have been able to locate a chicken swinging target for practicing. I'd like to get a full set so I can practice the pig, turkey and ram as well between events. The only place I found so far was steeltargets.ca. They appear to make very nice targets, but they definitely aren't cheap after shipping and taxes and I figured it would be prudent to see what options there are before deciding.

I specifically want swinging targets so I can just have one at each distance and plink it for hours without having to do any resets. Anyone know Canadian dealers who will ship?

Thanks

I will get the info to you asap.... NHRA cert cast steel targets

I don't have the means to do any sort of metal fabricating or modification. I have no access to the space or equipment necessary to make my own stuff like that, so I am just looking to get something.

Also, I checked wholesale's website and they had nothing listed. One category for nhra silhouette targets (which pictured a squirrel) was indicated to no longer be stocked. Additionally, I tried to shop with their website in the past with ill results and would prefer to deal elsewhere. They are great in the Nanaimo branch, but the people running the website are understaffed and too slow to get stuff done for my dollar.

Got Juice: thanks, looking forward to hearing from you.

i bought 4 full sets for our pistol silhouette using smallbore rifle targets at reduced ranges.. if you need details on how i scaled the IMHSA game using these, let me know, i would be glad to help out.

Paid less for these targets than other sources in Canada, and they are STRONG cast steel!

Rays Targets did not prove to be cost-effective because of the higher cost of shipping from the US and also the fact that he'd be using UPS, with whom I have a history of being charged additional "handling" fees in bringing things over the border, unlike USPS.

In any case, I'd always prefer to shop Canadian where possible & practical and it turns out steeltargets.ca (Dave Johnston) had pretty reasonable shipping rates to BC and I was able to find a local acquaintance to order a set along with me, bringing the shipping cost down a few dollars more still.

Dave's communication has been good, always giving me a response within a day, and less than a day after making payment to him, I already have a tracking number with the items in the mail.

Provided the items arrive and are as expected (which I'm quite confident will be the case), I'd happily recommend dealing with Dave if anyone is looking for similar targets (he also sells gongs and ipsc targets, etc). I will report back once I've had a day at the range with the new steels. :)

to bad I missed your post, I have a set and am just north of you......we could haggled on the side of the road

If you want to start a pistol silhouette ass'n call me for setup details. I wouldn't mind getting a few ranges together for this and host a Nationals Grade competition for handgun silhouette.

Currently we have 80 NRA Sanctioned targets from Ray, and plan on 80 more (hence why we went with Ray's for the NRA Certification)

Tagging thread for interest, and send me a pm when you can.

as for shipping, i had them dropped ups, then i went across the border and picked them up with some groceries. saved a bundle.

This is a tangent, but I don't want to start a new thread for something so trivial.

The local range at which I shoot has very hard ground loaded with lots of rock. As such, I have a hard time driving my current steel targets into the ground so they stand up nicely. My new silhouette swinger targets have much thicker diameter posts and so they are going to be even harder still to get mounted in such a way that they won't fall over after a few shots.

Do any of you seasoned shooters have a handy protip on how to get these things quickly mounted in the ground?

One guy suggested perhaps hammering them into the ground using each post as a spike with a hammer, but the posts have flat bottoms and I am not sure how effective that will prove in practice and I want to be prepared for it to be a problem and have a backup plan.

For a backup plan, I figure it would make sense to have a way to 'tap' the holes first and then drive the target posts down into the tapped holes. Some kind of an auger would be necessary but I have no idea what sort of thing might work and be safe. A big long thick drill bit on my cordless drill is a possibility but I figured I'd call on the resourceful community here in the days leading up to Saturday when I will get to test them out finally.
