The accutrigger adds $100? I don't think retailers are selling non-accutrigger models for a hundred bucks.
anybody got these savage mk 2's on sale right now?
Lebaron is selling the wood accutrigger models for about $220(taxes included), and the plastic stocked slightly cheaper. That might be a good idea if you have a lebaron close by.
thanks, will checkout tomorrow.

So now I'm looking as 762Shooter suggested a Savage Mk II FV with a Bushnell Banner Dusk and Dawn 3-9x40 3" eye relief. Thoughts? What size rings would I need for the Bushnell 1"? And what type of bases come preinstalled on the FV Weaver style?

Are these the Hawke scopes you speak of?

Would an adjustable objective be preferred for use with these 22lr's?
Actually I suggested the Banner 4-12. The reason I did is that this scope has an adjustable objective lens. Given that we typically shoot a .22 between 15 yards and 150 yards, if you don't have an adjustable objective lens you will have a lot of parallax error which will make good shooting difficult.
Other posters have recommended more expensive scopes. While its true that you get what you pay for, there is also the law of diminishing returns. The original poster was looking for an economical starter gun so I recommended the least expensive scope that I felt was worth having.
Thanks 762Shooter, that's exactly my intentions, get a nice inexpensive starter gun, learn the ropes of the precision game and eventually move up to a .308, where I plan on investing more of the green.
Out of curiosity, where can you find the Muellers in Canada? I searched and found White Falls, any where else?
Right now the Banner 4-12 with AO is in the running. Just need to find the rings to go with it.
