Trouble with tribbles... I mean shadows....

Theyre not all tight....
The rear sight on my shadow came loose during an ipsc stage...
Slid so far over it almost fell out...

Litte tightening of the set screw and some loc tite and it's been fine

Yeah a couple of the guys i shoot with had the same problem during a match. I went out to the range today and REALLY worked on my grip and it still it shooting left, for now i'll just aim for the dzone and hope to hit the azone and be done with it!

By the title of your thread I was thinking you got lucky and your shadow was breeding other shadows! That would be awesome w:h:

That would be!

I was watching Star Trek at the time AND there are just about as many shadows around as there are tribbles... it seemed fitting!

The shadow I used to have was used mostly by my son a few years ago. He had the overtravel screw and rear sight walk loose at the NB Provincials in 2008 or 2009. Very fustrating as I thought I had loctited it.

YAY!!!!

steel punch + SLEDGEHAMMER + rear sight = adjusted!

Now that i knocked it loose it's still tight but moves with a regular hammer and punch. So off to the range tomorrow to sight it in and then LOCKTITE!

A few things; it could be your grip, or a flinch or an excessively heavy trigger pull. If you have ruled all of these out by a process of elimination, then it could be your sights.

Now, you mention you are shooting left. But you want to move the rear sight to the right. This is intuitive but wrong. You see, you are assuming that the bore is aligned with the sights and if you move them right it will correct. In reality your bore is aiming left, whilst the sights are correct. So you must move the sights in the same direction to which you are missing, left. This will align the bore properly.

It is counter-intuitive, I know, but was explained to me by a gunsmith, and has produced results.

wtf ?? No, he should move the rear sight to the right...,

my damn sti spartan had the same problem, front and rear red loctited in. I wanted to remove the front sight to clear for the 90degree mounted c-more. But one too many hit broke the front sight blade and I'm stuck with the other piece in the dovetail. I could live with it, but now that I am willing to go back to open sights I have to thinker around a bit :p

Actually I was wrong, Nick. I explained it badly. You move the rear sight in the same direction as you wish to move the point of impact, NOT the same direction as the misalignment. So if you are missing left, you want to move the POI right. Therefore you move right ... and a lunchbox star for the guy who called me on it.

NEW PROBLEM

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd just revive this one.

I've swapped my mag release to the right hand side and really like it. It's been that way for months and have put a few thousand round through it that way. In the past few weeks/month I've had mags dropping for "no reason" while shooting. At first I thought I wasnt seating them properly, then I thought it was the mags themselves, however I "think" I've nailed down the problem.

When I get a nice high comfortable grip on the gun one of my finges on my right hand hits the release and causes it to drop and piss me off. Anyone else run into this problem and know a solution? I really perfer it on the right handside, however it's a PITA to have it drop the mags all the time.

I'm thinking that a smaller release may help, would a regular cz 75 release work?

Or perhaps swapping out the origional grips for thin aluminum would help? or that could make it worse.

If you have a solution or a suggestion I'm open to ideas.

Shoot lefthanded?
:)
Sorry I got nothing.
Only thing I can think of is if you are squeezing it, you'll have to adjust your grip so you don't.

edit:
I just got my shadow and tried to recreate your problem. (and got a few minutes of dry fire in...thanks!)
I gripped it as if I was a lefty and can't get close to doing it no matter how high or unorthodox my grip was.
Sorry.

Like you I prefer the mag release on the right hand side. I wear a medium large golf glove for hand size and haven't run into this problem with any of my guns I have switched. I think your idea is about all you can do. I assume you must have larger hands. I shoot with my trigger finger well off the frame with only my distal joint contacting the trigger. Is that how you shoot? If so and you are having this problem then the only real answer is to go with a smaller mag release. About the only way you are going to find out is to try it.

Take Care

Bob

I hate to say it but try putting it back on the left side and learn to use your thumb to release the mag. Sometimes its better to stick with what works. I can't/won't run an extended mag button even on my raceguns and I don't have large hands. I have to flip the gun a bit but I'd rather do this then drop mags in the middle of a string. See my recent video, if you pause at the .52 frame (during El Prez) and at 1.04 (Draw 1 reload 1) you can clearly see I have released my strong hand grip and flipped the gun slightly to hit the button and those reloads were 1.37 and .81 respectively
