.22 Bolt Action Recommendations?

Hey guys! My pal/rpal is confirmed and I'm considering my first .22 to set the way for rifle shooting in the future.. Does anybody have any good recommendations for a .22 bolt action for under $350-$400? I plan to to buy a ruger mk3 soon and would love to pick up a rifle aswell..

Ahh good to know.. didnt notice that.. would you guys say the heavier barrel is worth the loss of 5 rounds?
 
Another vote for Savage. I got the MkII Model F as a package deal with scope for $189 (deal's still on at Barton's , I believe). First time out, 50 yard 10-shot group under 1/2" (one ragged hole). I expect that will tighten up considerably more with break-in. Hard to beat that for the money.
 
I got the model F as it was the only 22lr savage they had instock. Tax free sale so the cost was like $210.

Picked up 4 extra 10 rd mags at William Arms *$20 each, and lots of 22lr ammo.

all work 100% with mini mag and blasers being the most accurate.

You can use the 10rd mags in the heavy barrel, just the heavy barrel comes stock wiht 1 5rd mag.

I'll join the bandwagon and recommend you consider one of the many Savage MKII model's.

if you plan on carrying it around and shooting small game, get the base model, it's lighter. if you plan on benchrest shooting and just tear up paper targets, then getting one with the bull barrel would be best. :)
 
So it seems like the savage is the clear cut winner.. does anybody know which store has the best price for one? Cabelas has them for $219 (both heavy barrel and the non)

Since you're in the GTA, might want to consider lebaron, and cut out the shipping cost of going with Cabelas. I believe the price is the same. The G model comes with a 10-round mag and I believe the F does as well(not 100% on that). F is ten bucks cheaper than G, has a plastic stock, and a lower comb(cheek riser). G has a wood stock with higher comb, better for scope mounting out of the box, in my opinion.

If you're scoping it, you will probably have to buy bases(about $6) unless the rifle comes with them, and weaver-type rings(vary in price, but can be had for less than twenty bucks).

Very fun gun, and made right here in Ontario!
 
Yes MADE IN CANADA so you can't go wrong ;) Although Savage has them imported to the USA and then we get killed on the exportation back up to Canada :(
 
Might as well join this Savage MKII lovefest.

The MKII series is the absolute best buy in new, box stock .22 bolt action rifles, bar none.

I really like my MKIIF for its accuracy, that I got a MKIGY for my grandson. My buddy got his MKIIFV upon my recommendation and he is impressed with it as well.
 
Try and find a CZ 452 or 455. They are typically more than your budget but well worth the extra cost. I doubt you will find a used one because nobody who owns one would ever sell it. This is probably a good sign...

Based on my experience watching the rimfire EE, I see many more CZs for sale than Savage MKIIs. I even saw a CZ Lux for 350 bucks last week.

I definitely like the design/fit/finish/accuracy of the CZs, but for pure function and acceptable aesthetics, the MKIIs are hard to beat.

For example, you could get a MKII/scope combo for less than $200 but a CZ455/452 will cost three times as much. Much as I appreciate the CZs, if the MKIIs were available when I got my CZs 10 yrs ago, I probably would have passed on the CZs.

No regrets on the CZs though, it's like marrying a smart beautiful woman.
