I am looking at getting a Remington 870 Synthetic Tactical. Seems to be a pretty good set up straight from the factory. I would probably change the forend and possible remove the breacher choke but i think thats about it. Does anyone have one that can give a bit of a review? What do you think of it?

It crossed my mind to build something but for the money the factory model seemed pretty good.
Or should I go for more of a Classic tactical police look?

ChefBoyOhBoy.. do you have a price in mind? I have one that is just sitting around but I would consider selling it for the right price... hehe

I had one for a year then sold it because I had two tactical shotties and wanted to get a glock.

It was great. It is an 870 with the tactical basics already factory installed. You may want to find a rem choke to replace the breacher choke if you are going to remove it; to protect the threads. I really liked the ghost ring sights. they were of a high quality and in the perfect spot.

One gripe about the jagged breacher choke was is was always getting snagged when putting the gun in a scabbard.

Get one! you will like it! I got mine mail order from Epps.

I am up in the air about what to do. I like the tactical but am also liking the classic police tactical look. Might be whatever I find first.

These 870's are nicely equipped right from Remington as well, but are a bit spendy. I had a green 870 Tactical Magnum with the factory pistol grip stock that I sold, then a black 870 Express Tactical just as the OP pictured, also since sold. I really liked the ghost ring sights on the Express, but had mixed feelings on the breacher choke accessory.

This one from Remington's LE catalog is nicely equipped; I've ordered in LE catalog items before and it doesn't seem to matter to vendors so long as you use the correct part #

Like Heli-wrench said...the breacher choke gets caught in scabbards and other cases when sliding it in. I still have mine in as I carry 12 gauge flares along with various loads when I'm in the bush.

I like the ghost ring sights, and didn't have to touch mine at all using Remington 1oz slugs.

I would recommend replacing the rubber shoulder pad though...and donating the stock one to a hockey team. I actually replaced mine with a Mesa Tactical recoil reducing stock.

I have mixed feelings on the breacher choke also. Thats an easy fix to swap it out with an IC of what ever though.

Any idea what the LE Model runs for price?

I own the 870 Tactical Express synthetic and its been running great. Its much lighter than the Norinco hp9 (14" 870 clone). since it already comes with the XS ghostring sights and the picatinny rails, the only thing is the trigger guard is not steel like the 870 police. You can screw the tactical cylinder and put in a remington choke that will not protrude from the barrel.

Hows it working out for you? You bought it from a nice guy :D:D

I bought one of these in 2009 but there wasn't a breacher choke on it at all, just a regular 18.5" barrel with the raised sight. Great shotgun, I tacticooled it to hell with a Magpul stock and grip.

I also went from a 14" Norc HP-9 to this. I was shocked at the weight difference. The longer and authentic 870 felt easier to manipulate and point, IMO.

I think that 870 Tactical is a good buy.

Question about the "police tactical" look you're considering.

Are you going to USE this shotgun? If so, you might discover that you like/want synthetic, because you'll have to baby wood a little more if your the type who doesn't like seeing it roughed up.

Not that I use my guns rough, but when the shotgun I've leaned up against my bedroom wall slides to the left and smashes flat onto the floor, I'd rather be concerned about a scratch in my floor than my 870's wood. LOL, terrible, eh?

How about this. My buddy likes them so much he has 2. He sold me his Mossberg 500 because he liked the 870 so much better. Ive shot it and its a fantastic gun. And every accessory under the sun is avail for an 870. You can't go wrong with it. Perfect beater shotgun. And why does everyone hate on the Door-breacher choke? I think it looks kind of neat.

I just bought one yesterday, loving finish. I cleaned her up nice and threw on a mesa side saddle. Considering replacing the stock, we'll see how bad this one abuses me, shorter LOP might be nice for my GF as well.

As for the guys wanting a breacher choke, make me an offer! I could do without it for the right price as well...

Most of the weight difference is in the stocks. Swap them out with Remington or hogue and you should see a big difference.
