Rem.7600 advise needed

I have a m 7600 and want to remove the barrel to clean the bolt and install a new O-ring on the pump shaft. I tried croil and a heat gun, yet it won't budge. I'm leary on using a torch on it, wouln't it overheat the metal and also melt the plastic ejection port cover? Also where can I get an o-ring and what size? Thanks in advance for the advise, this is a great forum and many helpfull gunutz.

I've never needed a torch. Use a vise to hold the receiver, and a proper wrench on the nut.

Don't crush the receiver.

Even on the tough ones a heat gun has always worked for me.
I nornally watch this video also since I am a shotgun guy not taking the 7600 apart very often and this helps me

If you are talking the action tube o-ring that is nothing special just a neoprene O-ring. take the old one to home hardware and they will match it. I cannot remember the exact size off the top of my head sorry

I generally use a Torx screw driver, can't remember which size but it just fits through the holes (maybe #20) and then I gently tap the side of the screwdriver handle with a hammer. While the firearm is tightly secured.

Take the piece which will give you the ring thickness size and the tube and fit one at the store right on the tube.
I use good grade like snap on punch and a piece of pipe about 2-3 feet long on the tough ones.Remember they are loctited in and you have to do the same when reinstalling

Thanks for all the advice, turns out a wooden workmate and a cheap punch doesn't cut the mustard! My buddy had her done in 5 min. Now to go o-ring shopping. Walnuts got a coat of Tru-oil, bore is bright, actions is all cleaned up. Now to polish up exterior metal, install new base, finish the woodwork and put on the scope. Then go shoot my new 1982, 7600.

The o rings are fairly small compared to the tube, but stretch nicely into the slot.

Solid rifle not much mechanical wear on it. I'm not too savy with posting pictures, I'll have to beg one of my kids to help.
