I know there is so many answer to my question. I got myself a sxs and hardly can hit anything (no problem with an o/u). So my question is what you guys do differently when shooting a sxs? I will get the gun fitted and see if it make any difference.

Thanks. Jozsef

That's probably your answer right there. I prefer SxS to O/U but typically, a SxS is set up to shoot pretty flat meaning you'll have to put the bury the target/bird under the barrels before you pull the trigger. In other words, no floating the target above the bead!

When you throw/place the sxs to your shoulder is your sight picture the same as the o/u? If not then in all likelyhood the side by, doesn't fit you. I shoot SxS that fits me with as much success as an O/U that fits and I shoot Sporting Clays & Skeet from the low gun position.

i 3rd the patterning. i have a old pump (28'' full) that fits well but was only hitting 12-16s. i have a H&R parnder with a 28" full and i am consistant at 22-24s. i pattened all my shotguns this week and well the old pump will be a wall hanger soon enough.

i dont like SxS i find it odd to aim like i am over reaching with my cheak weld.

I hear lot of folks mostly rifle shooters make the same statement as above with regard to "aiming". In shotgunning you don't aim the gun -- you point it.
Also a common complaint about SxS's is that the wider sight plane throws/distracts the shooter. The gun should fit so that it points where you look -- if you see the barrel(S)then you will miss -- in shotgunning you should only consciously see the target.

Pick one barrel and aim over it! Just kidding.

Fit, pattern & confirming that the barrels hit where they point is the answer. I does not take long at all to get used to broad sighting plan of a SxS. Besides, once you're doing it right, regardless of the style of shotgun, you will not be looking at the barrels anyway.

I have shot many sxs that don't quite fit and therefore horrendous to shoot. Once you find one that fits well, it's all smooth sailing from there.

Fit on a sxs is slightly different than a o/u. More cast, less drop usually. Pattern the gun and adjust the fit accordingly.

I just recently started shooting a BRNO side lock 12 bore. This gun shoots right where I am looking and I feel it will be deadly on live birds. BUT I did notice a very different recoil sensation than what my other pumps and autos produce. Even with with target loads this gun lets you know you pulled the tigger. It is light and it has no pad so that likely is the cause. Other than that I love it. I guess I got lucky on a mail order gun that fits so well.

I shoot a 102 year old ITHACA double12 ga. also shoot 20ga.in it with sub gauge tubes. as been said. get some 4'x4' cardboard from local produce store . mark and aim for center at 20 yds. then move out to 30-40 yds. once its patern is known, get a friend and shoot some clay pigeons. my ITHACAmodel 37 pumps and my mossberg ALL shoot to a different point of aim.
