Weatherby Vanguard mount issue

Hey guys i have a bit of an annoying issue. I bought my Weatherby Vanguard and some rings also made by Weatherby that the dude behind t he counter said would fit great on it. The package itself says it fits the rifle.

Then i mount them on the rifle and i find this.

I did cycle a few snap caps through and they ejected fine but this is driving me crazy i just wanted to know if this is normal? I am going to the shop with my rifle and have them make it all right but if this is the best weatherby can do it would be nice to know it before i make an ass of myself at the store.
 
What is your issue? The slight overlap won't cause any issues with cycling, but it will help accomodate scopes with a longer eye relief. By the way, Weatherby did not make the rifle or the rings, they have contractors build them. The barreled action was made in Japan by Howa.
 
The worst part i think is that the part that is overhanging is the same as the part that is recessed forward. If it was flush with the back and then still overhanging i would be fine. if i turn the ring around then its even worse where it actually interferes with the bolt. I cant switch the 2 bases since the holes are not the same distance apart and the radius on the bottom the bases is different. I cant mill down the rear either since i will lose 2 of the holes and the ring will be half as thick and it will look like crap. There is no problem with cycling like i said and i have a lot of room for eye relief if it was moved back the length its overhanging.

I get what you are saying Stubblejumper but they put their name on both so i dont care who made it. Like the Ipods people have now are all made in china from korean parts and Apple still counts it as their product. So saying they subcontracted different companies does not excuse them from putting out a clearly ugly product. There would be no problem if the holes were just drilled in the right place which i think is something i will have to fix myself.

I just wanted to know if this was normal and everyone else is shooting thier Weatherby with rings positioned like mine or if i have a defective product?
 
Haha haven't shot it yet just got my pal and i have been working every day for the last 2 weeks. I did not even put lock-tight on the screws or anything just had it set for when i can go to the range. I had it all lined up and and ready to tighten down for my eye relief and the reticle is perfectly square. Its been eating away at me since i mounted it earlier this week.
 
Yeah right. I have no doubt it will shoot fine but i am a technologist and I bought rings so i dont have to do it myself. I do quality checks on machines every day stuff like this would never get by me at work you bet i cant let it go when it has to do with only of my major interests. When i drill it out what i should coat the hole with so it does not rust hmm it wont look the same.

Nobody else is bothered by it? Its like buying a squash racket that has something lose inside the frame rattling.

Did you get a set of SA rings instead of LA, may be worth checking to see by chance if they did make different ones.I prefer 1 piece picatinny style mounts.It is another option which also allows more mounting/positioning options as well as being more rigid.
 
no i was an idiot i told the dude behind the counter which rifle i bought and trusted him to get me the one i needed. I should not have been in such a rush and opened the pack and asked to see their rifle if it will line up. I figured OEM rings should at least line up. holes line up great and otherwise they seems like good mounts to me. I mean my sako has sweet mounting rings that i bought and they were made by sako so i expected too much i guess.
 
As I posted previously, there is likely a reason for the way that mount is built. Your Bushnell scope has a fairly short eye relief compared to many scopes. If they had made the mount flush with the opening, it quite likely would not allow some of the longer eye relief scopes to be mounted properly on your rifle. After all, they do not know which scope the owner might mount on the rifle, so they make the mount so that it will accommodate a wide variety of scopes, even if it doesn't look perfectly symmetrical.
 
I guess i wont waste my time with the store then. I will just have to personalize them. The symmetry is fine just cant get over it i dont get the feeling they were trying to help with the fit of the scopes i just get the feeling someone got the wrong dimensions and drilled the holes wrong. Only think that way because the lengths match perfectly but the holes dont.

Do you believe that if you checked several sets of rings, that the holes would be in different locations than in your rings, because yours were simply drilled wrong? Do you believe that all of the rings had the holes drilled wrong, and nobody realized this?The obvious solution is to contact Weatherby directly with your concern.
 
I can tell you think i am an idiot. I mainly posted here to see if this is typical so i can save me a commute to Toronto. It isnt far but drying there still takes forever. I dont know what i would see if i looked at more of them since i did not check. I am not sure if you read my post or if i did not make myself clear. its like trying to put your hand together but you dont get them right on and instead are a knuckle up on the right hand; was i trying to do that on purpose or am i retarded? who knows
 
They are Talley Rings marked for Weatherby. They are quality rings. They will also fit Remington 700s, hense the reason the profile is not an exact match to the loading port on your rifle. It doesnt affect functionality, and it is exactly how they are supposed to be.
