.22 Bolt Action Recommendations?

Try and find a CZ 452 or 455. They are typically more than your budget but well woth the extra cost. I doubt you will find a used one because nobody who owns one would ever sell it. This is probably a good sign...

+1 on the CZ 452 or 455. I love the fit and finish. It cycles very smooth and quick. I find it easy to make follow up shots on tree rats.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! But before I make a clear cut decision, would anyone like to share their thoughts on the Marlin Model XT-22R? In terms of the trigger/ reliability etc.

I played with the marlin before I decided savage. The savage has a better trigger and 10 rd mags. The marlin is limited to 7 rds. That is why I chose the savage.

Forgot to add, with the CZ455 you have the quick barrel swap option for up to 4 calibers with one rifle. :)

ohh thats interesting.. how much do barrels usually range from?

Sorry, I don't have any info on individual barrel pricing. The standard 455 goes for around $450 to $500 and the combo package is usually $100 more. It includes and extra barrel and magazine. I thought hard about the combo package for $500 the last big local sale, but couldn't afford it. :(

I sold mine...

For the price of a new 455 barrel, you'd be able to buy another new Savage rifle in whatever caliber you want. If you swap out barreles you would have to re-zero your scope everytime. Switch out barrels are just a goofy gimick.

1) CZ 452
2) ZASTAVA Z-5
3) SAVAGE MKII
4) If can you find a nice TOZ 99
5) ANSCHUTZ (Yes at fifth place because of the price)
6) Used Browning A-Bolt and older Remingtons
7) C-I-L and Cooey
8) Older Marlins
9) Current Marlins or Remingtons
IMO.

Loving the savage. Went thru 500 rds of ammo today. Shot great, I did have some FTF and FTE with Winchester 555 and hollowpoint.

Best groups with cci mini mag, blazers and green tag.

Any suggestions for hollowpoint?

How often do you guys clean the barrel??

Just bought mine the Savage MKII F although work is getting in the way so I have not made it out anywhere yet, but it is ready to go for this weekend to blast off a shot or 1000, (depending on weather) I have added onto it though a small and tidy not so expensive scope just for kicks.

Now if only I could find a way to upload my pictures (although lousy as I am using my cell phone)

Mine has the camo stock and the blued barrel. It's nice to fire something cheaper than my M&P 40.

I'm pretty sure you've sold a Savage rifle too. ;)

Hmm... the combo package (extra barrel and magazine) only costs about $100 more. I'd like to buy a new Savage rifle for that price! :) Re-zeroing is not really a big step. Just mark down the adjustment required on a round sticker that fits under your scope adjustment cap. A good scope will track no problem. If that's too much of a chore then get quick detach rings. You'll probably want a higher power scope for the longer ranges of a 17HMR round anyways.

As for hollowpoints, I've been using Winchester Dynapoint with success - out of my MkII they group like target ammo
